Default 97 Accord engine vibration

I have a vibration coming from the front of the motor. A fellow user sent a message that said it may be "charachteristic" of my vehicle. What does this mean, that I have to deal with it? It is real annoying. I plan on changing the exhaust gaskets, but this may not help. The vibration starts at 2000 rpm. You can feel it through the floor. Any help would be great. Thanks!!

It is absolutely the motor. It sounds as thogh it comes from the head area. I had the valves adjusted. The tech said it could be from the heat shield which I removed and the problem is still there. A service bulliten sais it may be "characteristic of my car. What the f#@! does that mean!!

sounds like what they mean by a "characteristic of your car" is that its a part of it or just the way it is....which is bs cause everything can be fixed. i would think that the right tech could diagnose the problem and pinpoint the area. other than that, i probably didnt help much

How many miles do you have? 4 0r 6 cyl.? Make sure the manifold bolts are tight and the manifold bracket is ok. Motor mounts could be the problem, but depends on mileage of car. How many miles do you have?

112k miles. 4 cyl motor(non v-tech) Manifold seems tight. I removed heat shield temporarily to see if that was the culprit,no dice. How would I know if it is the motor mounts?

I am assuming that you take off the whole exhaust manifold out and then take out the heat shield?

that's how it goes for the f23a4 and f23a1 vtec engine, a three piece design for the exhaust manifold

If that were the problem.. it would be vibrating more at idle than at higher rpms.

Ummm.. Im clueless if its not heat shields.. Transmission Mount?!

Does your car vibrate at idle? This is the key question. Do you feel any vibrations in your seats or STEERING wheel at IDLE only? If you do then it could be motor mount related. I have a 98 accord with 115k miles 4-cyl. v-tech motor. I can feel vibration at idle for sure in my car and i know my motor mounts are getting worn. REMEMBER, HONDA MOTORS are CHARACTERISTIC for being LOUD especially at morning startups, have weak and jerky transmissions especially with high mileage, and have very poor motor mount design. I have owned TOYOTA's my whole life and believe me a TOYOTA beats a HONDA hands down. Not to say a honda is a bad car. Honda's are just second to TOYOTA in just about every catagory except looks. Most HONDAS look better than TOYOTA's.

I have answered his question drunk. It's either motor mount related or NORMAL characteristic of HONDA motors. Can't you read or are ya still drunk. I am 36 years old. How many bones do you have?

And was it necessary for the CAPITAL LETTERS OF TOYOTA or HONDA?? Geesh, get with it dude, ok for one, they are both really good manufactures, I would own a HONDA any day of the week over a TOYOTA, and as far as reliability any motor will last a long time if you keep up on maintenance. NTM that honda generally have a higher resale value....so there Oh and one more thing....toyota built the car then the engine...honda built engines then the car, YOU figure it out.

I agree with what you are saying. They are both good cars for sure. I just personally like Toyota engines over Honda engines. But as far as power and looks, Honda wins. They both resale very well.

Maybe if you could read.. you would of read that he said the vibration started at 2k. If there is a motor mount problem.. the car would of started vibrating at idle. And yes.. I am still drunk

Thats why I asked him if his car was vibrating at idle or not. This is key. Your right,
MOST of the time if a motor mount is bad the vibration is very noticeable at idle. When you increase the RPM over 1000, then less stress is put on the engine mounts. But this is not always the case. He should check out all mounts to be sure. Cheers to you. What is your favorite hop? Tonight is Friday night, are you going to get super drunk? If so, call a cab and leave your Honda at home.

Toyota Engine Oil Sludge
Faced with a consumer revolt over low mileage engine failures caused by oil sludge buildup, Toyota has begun to notify 3.3 million owners of 1997-2002 Toyota and Lexus vehicles with 3.0-liter IMZ V-6 engines and all 1997-2001 Toyota vehicles with 5SFE 2.2-liter 4-cylinder engines that it will cover the cost of sludge-related repairs for eight years from date of initial sale.

Whether this will satisfy the thousands of Toyota and Lexus owners who
have already suffered engine failure remains to be seen because Toyota's
Special Policy falls short of an express warranty. Toyota modified V-6
engines made after July 2001 but has not recalled the earlier engines.
The 2.2L 4-cylinder has been dropped.

CAS urges Toyota and Lexus owners with engine problems to file
a complaint. CAS believes Toyota should provide an express warranty
of at least 10 years/120,000 miles, whichever comes later, on the engines
in the affected models.

Got one good question for you. If Honda is an engine company that makes cars, then why can't they make a good transmission? Every Honda I have driven that has some miles on it shifts poorly. Jerky upshifting and downshifting is common. Honda should really start paying more attention to this complaint by many Honda owners. That's not to say Toyota is perfect, because they are not. They have their share of problems too. A good example is brakes. Their drum braking is poor. Bottom line HONDA and TOYOTA are both great cars BUT are not perfect.

Than why did you bring up this argument in the first place if you agree they both have their pros and cons.. very condescending.

Because the initial problem involved a noisy, vibrating engine near the head of the motor at 2000 RPM. Honda's are just noisy. Plain and simple. It is just a characteristic. Toyotas are simply quieter.

Who cares?? Everyone that owns a honda knows its a little louder, especially the older ones, the rockers, valves, pushrod hell the whole head, but its HONDA-tech.com of course people are gonna be biased if they have a honda. Settled.
