Well, the real question is whether or not they are TTY head bolts. Those cannot be reused.

I also cannot find anything on whether or not Honda uses TTY head bolts. I checked my GSR manual and it mentions nothing about resusing the head bolts.

However......for what it costs to replace them the real question is why would you bother taking the risk?

Cheers,
Sean

For what you are doing you will be ok using them again. As long as they have not been removed and reused more that twice. Honda has a stretch spec but I cant seem to find it.

What if you just went 2 or 4 more lb/ft on the torque wrench?

That won't make up for it! The way i see it is that if they didn't put in the manual that they needed to be replaced every time, then they would get re-used over and over and over! Whice can cause problems! I have used the same head bolts a couple of time now, and no problems, but if I do another tear down, I am going to get new ones! And they are 30.00 from honda, and along with a headgasket (whice are getting more expensive) your looking at almost a 100.00 just for taking off your head. And that isn't in conjuntion to the problem that would have caused you to have removed your head...

While everything is out, you should change the headbolts

Torque to yield bolts (just like torque to spec bolts) can be reused as long as they're still within spec. Honda has stretch specs for their headbolts and I've never had to replace any H22 headbolts (they were all within spec). Mind you these were warranty engines putting out stock power.

But if you're planning a build up, might as well replace them since they're out.
