Default Stolen Type R in Toronto Area

Tonight, around midnight Toronto time, my friend's brother was assaulted and his '97 Type R stolen from his driveway.

It was obviously a planned theft. He arrived home to find something blocking his driveway. He got out of the car to remove the obstruction and was then jumped and assaulted by three men, who then stole his car.

So, everyone be careful with your cars (as usual) especially in the Toronto area.

And also please be on the lookout for any parts from a '97 Type R.

damn, not only are they just stealing our R's, but now physically assaulting us too??? thieves are getting more brazen atleast the guy didn't shot

if these people are found, i'm guessing its going to be labeled a more serious crime now other than just car theft...hope they get caught and bent over in prison.

No, they will be out "protecting our nation from terrorism" with more speed traps.

Jeez, what part of Toronto did this happen in? I think the proper term to use is "carjacking".

Wow.. I thought Canada was super peaceful and stuff(at least that's what Bowling for Columbine taught me)..

Not good to hear that they've now moved up to carjacking for ITRs.. Glad to hear your friend's brother is ok though..

more details would be nice, like where it happened/what area of toronto, mods of the 97 itr to we'll know what to look out for and any other description of the individuals who assaulted your friend's bro.

you also might want to talk to GettaluvR and if are both local go to the police station together and point out that thefts of these kinds of car are getting serious and can probably help each other out by pressuring the detectives working on the case.

sorry bout the loss..

The theft happened close to the Richmond Hill area.

Fortunately, my friend's brother is physically ok, just roughed up a bit. I think it's more disturbing to know that someone would do this right outside your home. The sanctity of your own home! Thanks for all the concern!

The Type R was very stock. So luckily he didn't lose out on aftermarket parts as well. I'm trying to get the engine block number, but it seems my friend doesn't really want to think about this right now. Unfortunately, the car is realistically stripped by now.

Canada has less violent crime than the US, but we have a very high property crime rate. Vancouver actually ranks in the top 10 North American cities for property crime!

I cannot believe it has come to carjacking now... that's ridiculous... now they don't even bother planning and sneaking around to do this shiet unnoticed and like theives... now they just doing it like thugs, it's like rolling someone for their shoes in the ghetto... unbelievable...

And given the apathy of the police to car theft (much less TYPE-R theft) in recent reports, next thing you know, they'll be doing it in broad daylight... you'll be waiting at a stop light and all of a sudden a couple thugs'll throw you out of your own car and drive away in front of 20 other drivers at the intersection...

"You're wasting your time... that's what insurance is for."
- Gee, it must be all those import sports car drivers that is driving up insurance rates... wait, the police don't even bother looking for stolen cars... maybe that's why there are so many extra claims?

"We would like to ban audible car alarms in Vancouver because it will save tax money and annoyances to surrounding areas"
- Annoyance? isn't that the point of an alarm? to attract attention of surrounding bystanders through "annoyance"? Maybe we should ban alarms in banks, storefronts and peoples houses too... those potential false alarms could annoy people standing around the crime scene. And their claim to saving tax money is that they won't have to dispatch officers and/or cruisers/tow trucks to these alarms... wow... police being dispatched to a potential crime? nooo way can't have that, god forbid...

But, photo radar, red light cameras, radar traps... there's crime prevention right there... clearly... [/sarcasm]

Sigh... inching closer and closer to anarchy day by day...
