Default if you had a chance to do it over agian....

all you guys and gals with swaped motors, such as eg's and ek civics. I you had a chance to go back and do it all over agin would you still drive your eg, ek with the swap and all the mods you have, or would you have rather got somthing else? If so like what? Would you want to stay FF or go FR, or other. Just want peoples opinions, for I am coming to the time now where I have to start deciding What project car to invest in. I love VTEC thats whats keeping me honda bound, but then again, I love the sweet sound on two turbos powering a rotary, and also a sr20det powered s13?

Sorry I made the post so long, please read, and enjoy, maybe this might turn out good.

you should try the sound of a turbocharged boxer with an open header and a catless up and down pipe

the only 4 on the planet that sounds (almost) as nice as an 8

Naw, I love my h22 hatch. I've always been a honda fan since i was 12 years old. I never jumped on the bandwagon just because everybody else was driving a Honda. Or just because a turbo wrx, evo, or str-4 came out and they had to ditch their honda just because its cool thing to do. I did it for the pleasure of vtec and that's all. Beside I can't afford anything else. And if i did I'll probably still throw all my money in my hatch!

Seems like everyone who has an h22 hatch LOVES it and has no regrets..........sometimes Ill just be bored at home, I can't think of anything to do so I'll just go hop in the hatch and drive around a bit, thinking........hit vtec a few times and i'm good, I then go home and I feel at peace with the world........I have 2 hondas a 93 h22 eh3 and a 00 em1........temps here reach into the 110-120 degree range in the summer, the hatch has no A/C, the em1 does, and I still EVERYTIME hop in the hatch. The only things that ever stop me from driving the hatch is A)snow. B) the wife........even then I can usually persuade the wife to go in the hatch bout half the time(I get on my knees and beg, I bribe, make promises, pay her, etc.)....If my car got stolen, as soon as
I found out it was gone for good, I'd be on the phone ordering parts to build another........This is why I belive the "H" in H22 stands for Heroin.........h22 hatch is my drug, I crave it badly ............................John

I love my EG B16a. It was such a step up from the original VX motor! Now have gone Turbo, and want more. I don't think it will ever stop. I would do it all over again for sure.

If I could do it all over again I would have replaced that HG when it blew on my d15 instead of buying a B18c1. Then, I would have continued to save for the C1 only to realize that K20 is the way to go. So, instead of being $1200 in debt, I'd probably be $1500 on my way to $4500 and doing a K series swap. Oh well. **** happens. But I would keep the hatch. There is nothing else for $8K or so(after car, mods, etc) that I would rather have.

Why not look a little deeper, and realize that if you had a ghetto-swap that never worked right and never made power, chances are you'd have wanted something else. Maybe you didn't get enough power out of the junkyard turbo and your boy in the WRX is beating you (god forbid).

But to those of us that have been around the block and do things right, there's no doubt we wouldn't have had it any other way.

Of course, i'd like a beautiful twin-turbo vette or a single-turbo r33 or supra, but in my income bracket, that's unrealistic.

Proud owner of an EK with a good 'ol c1 - I'm living the dream. 12s and lovin' it.

I know of a few 2 cylinders that sound BETTER than any 8. Or 4 for that matter.

Almost same here....I would have saved up and bought a Dart B20 block and built it up instead of throwing a GSR head on my stock B20 and hoping it doesn't die.
And I would have bought an EK instead of an EG....

if i had to do it all over again..........i would have bought a complete b16a instead of buying a gsr head and b16 block that was bare....no bolts no nothing...a peacing togethera motor. i would have went obd-0 from the jump as well...i traded my EG for an EF w/ rims and sounds....sometimes i think back...man the b-series swap would have been a lot easier...OH WELL....EFanatic 4 Life....

Let's see... I have been doing it all over again lately . Had a turbo B20 EG hatch, changed it to a H22 hatchback... sold it. Then did a H22 into an EK hatchback.... sold it. Had a RHD DC2 and was going to drop a H22 into it... sold it. Still have my DA, but that's a daily driver so it has a decent setup to roll around in, but that's old skool and it looks clean, and I got it for next to nothing, so I'll probably keep that. Why did I sell those cars? Not that I was bored of them (well, kinda was) but the price offered was right so we sold it to do another project. Now, trying to get another RHD Honda, but a 6-cyl RWD one

Let's see... multiple setups, n/a and turbo... I fell in love with turbo... but due to circumstances, have a built n/a motor in the hatch.

All Motor is GREAT... I see why honda's are meant to be motor... but know why they want to be boosted...lol

If I could do anything again with my current setup... I'd wish I coulda bought a hatch in better condition for less that I paid (I got ripped a new one on the price) OH... and I'd wish I bought an Si hatch instead of a DX... 4 wheel disc and sunroof ownZ... fugg the extra pounds.

bought a 96 ex (my very first car), sold it due to its porky weight.

bought a 98 hx, selling it because I never drive it.

have a b17 EF hatch sitting in the driveway of my parents' house

drive a 91 corolla, because Im in college, and in my apartment, ppl always F*ck w/ your car.

If I were to start over, I'd probably get a eg or ek, cx/vx/dx, and drop in a k20, but thats a lot of work, and I know I won't have enough time/money to build it.

As of now, Im just focusing on selling all these cars and parts so I can start thinking about starting over.

I would have taken my time more....not half-assed as much. My interior needs work. I drive a buzz bomb that you cant hold a cell phone conversation in. No A/C, no power windows.....3 working speakers....an exhaust leak.....shitty snow tires...and a tuned B18C5 that loves to rip some **** up.

I envy FC/FD RX7's, 2JZ Supra's, new Vipers, Enzo ferrari's.....but when I step out of the house and see what has taken me all across the United States for the past 5 years....she still holds a special place in my heart. She isnt the sexiest, she isnt the lightest, but she is mine.

When I see other hooked up EK's I just say "damn that looks good" like I am watching a fine *** girl walk by....most people think EK's are ugly, small, economy cars....but everytime I see a clean example....it makes me want to keep building my EK.

Then I race and beat the supposedly "faster" cars...maybe its the driver, maybe its the car....but in the end I bought my car new with every intention of keeping it in my family for as long as possible and passing it down to my son.

Honda's are expensive to mod...dont fool yourself. But when your living the life....the time you wait for parts to arrive seem to go by faster and when you get a new part it feels like Christmas.

I dunno, I have had more fun building my car than I have racing. Hanging out, meeting cool people, helping friends with swaps, parts etc...its someting I cant put a price on. The best part of building a complete hybrid hatch is knowing while similar hatchies exist....your hatch is a reflection of your time, money, planning and philosophy.

I have been into this scene since 95. As a teen I couldnt imagine dropping the kind of money I drop on my car. Now as an older wiser me...I could easily buy cars that were out of my price range when I was 18. But I keep my hatch because I take pride in whats mine, my time and work that goes into turning a 106hp 16 sec 44 mpg car into a mid 13 sec screamer with a suspension that makes you smile when the roads get tight.

Sure there are "better" starting points....just like there are supermodels and **** queens....but just like the girl you marry...I believe those who continue to build their hatchies do it for the pure love that comes from building a dream and not because it looks the best or has the biggest motor or the biggest turbo...be happy with what you build and youll enjoy it much more than being handed a "perfect" stock car...

would have a bought a $3500 clean hatch

and swapped in an c5, $5000

costs less than the ek I paid for, and would be a lot faster

As much as I love my hybrid hatch, the theft problems are eating me up inside. Add to that the Civic/"FF" platforms limitations and I sometimes wish I could have started a project with a different platform-
1) TODA all motor'd lightweight Miata
2) all aluminum V8 swap in a 2nd Gen RX7
3) TODA all motor'd Trueno/AE86
4) just save up and buy a very used S2000
5) built a dedicated autox/trackday car like a tube frame D-Mod car with a turbo rotary or something like that.
