any one use rubber hose for oil drain off turbo
Hi I have seen alot of people use SS line for the oil drain out of the turbo, can you use rubber hose instead or its not recommend? Also where is the best place to get a oil feed line. Thankyou
yea go ahead use the rubber hose for your drain tube....but it will melt and breakdown very fast from the intense heat of the turbo....I recommend just using steel braided line, dont get to cheap when it comes to oil feed and drain...As far as oil feed go through mcmaster, i got feed lines for like 50 bucks shipped, steel braided...work very well and look good

we used to run rubber until people had problems melting them, loosing oil, and blowing motors... better safe then sorry, upgrade to the SS line kit.

The stainless has rubber inside of it.... so... like. I guess the stainless shroud adds strain relief, and sidewall support... maybe some heat dissapation, but the steel braiding is not liquid tight itself... I'm saying, it's ALL rubber.

You're almost right.... There is a difference between the rubber from autozone heater hose to the ones on the ss braided lines.
The SS braided lines uses synthetic rubber lining, heat resistant outer sleeve then the stainless braided the outer cover. The stainless braided will protect the hose from direct heat, while the heat resistant cover in the middle will protect from heat that will collapse the inside lining.

you can choose to go with teflon inner and SS braid outside. it wont melt either, plus you can get heat resistant/reflecting sleevs to go over the drain, if interest i post pics.
Phiz, you beat me too it. All the flexible stainless lines are rubber (silicon) inside. There are 'rubber' hoses designed for hot engine oil out there, just a pain to find sometimes. NAPA makes a universal hose that is good to 300F and oil rated. think it's rubber with silicon lining.

i use the napa hose for feed and drain. just has to be at least sae30r9 rated for heat and corrosiveness of oil and fuel and strength. it is sometimes hard to find. i had harder time trying to get correct fittings/feed so i just bought everything seperately. it's usually between $3-5 dollars/ft.

not all silicone hose has a vacuum rating, check if you are using it somehwere that sees vacuum otherwise it may pinch itself. not sure where you meant to use it, just a heads up.

Boating goods stores, have fuel/exhaust lines that have coast guard safety ratings, so you'll know what enviornmental conditions they will stand up to. But honestly, the idea of oil pouring out of a fitting, and the effects of the resulting oil starvation, it's not worth it to me to go cheap. I'm definitly ordering my stuff from stan.

my ss braided hoses have some sort of white plasticky tube down the middle. doesn't really seem like rubber. are there different kinds? i got all my feed/return parts from a local hydraulics shop.

yup, It does kink fairly easily but I put a 3/4" x5" compression spring (thin wire)in the part that bends. It works perfectly but I do plan on getting some -12AN stainless hose eventually from stan.

your ss lines is teflon coated...all teflon coated have plastic type tube on the inner instead of rubber

i used the rubber line in the greddy kit, then i wrapped it with reflective header wrap. I would of used someting better but the greddy turbo will fail before the line will.
i used some aeroquip hose which is good for temps 250degrees and pressure 250psi. had to change the one what came in my turbo kit too
