b20/vtec can I run a b16a water pump and timing belt?

b20/vtec can I run a b16a water pump and timing belt?
Sup ya I know you are suppose to run either ITR or GSR waterpump and Timming belt on a b20/vtec setup. I have a complete b16a block with pump and t-belt can I just run that since its a vtec setup? Whats the different?
