Hi Gang:

I just put a transmission from the junk yard in my 93 Accord and it really thumps when it shifts up or down. One to two is very bad, 2-3 is just as bad 3-4 is not so bad. When downshifting,the noises are the same at the same shift points. The transmission is filled with fluid but it appears to use some as I had to add a quart after 25 miles. Does it take awhile for the fluid to fill the transmission and torque converter. It acts like it is low on fluid but is not. Between 2-3 there is a bit of slippage when under heavy acceration.

Can this transmission be fixed or must it be replaced? It will cost no more than $2000.00 to put a rebuilt transmission in it. The car may be worth $4000.00. at best. It has 1700,000 miles on it but is in great condition.

Any suggestions?

Dude, you can find a used auto tranny in perfect working condition for <$500. Just keep looking through JY's.

And remember, you can use any of them from 90-97. quite possibly the 98+ f23 a/t too.

But yes, it seems one of your vavle bodies is having major problems directing the fluid.

thumping is usually a sign of a overfilled tranny.

I'd look at how your measuring the fluid .... i think you suppose to do it when it's hot.

There is also a thread around here (from Escobar?) about doing a tranny flush that majorly improved shifting but it is a bit pricey ~$120 (and a crap-shoot).

 

HI i rebuild tranys how hard does it shift , did you put honda fuild in it ,it makes a diffrent, and the fuild is checked with engine off . i dont know what year you have but if it has a cable you can adj. it .
