Will need to set base idle.
Disconnect IAC with engine running and see if idle drops, engien dies, or no change, if engine dies or no change in idle speed when IAC disconnected, idle too high or too low. When you disconnect IAC with engine running, base idle should be 500-550 rpm, with no accessories on. Thsi is with the engine at operating temp.
Do not, I repeat, do not use your tach on the dash for this. (Very Inaccurate) Need to use inductive tach or timing light with tachometer built in. Much more accurate. After setting base idle to 500-550 rpm with IAC disconnected, turn engine off, reconnect IAC and clear codes. Restart engine and check idle speed. Should be set at 700-750 rpm now.
Also, want to make sure coolant level is topped off and no air pockets in system. If air in system or low coolant, will cause IAC to respond very irratic.
Hope this helps
