Just picked up my '02 S2k and it came with Yoko A550V's in the rear
Coming from an EVO8, i must say that this car is very different. Anyways, the rear end of the car feels like its on ice. Does anyone know if these tires are any good? I've never heard of them and was hoping maybe you guys do. Thanks.
No wonder the car feels like it's on ice. It was meant to be driven with S02's or something equally sticky. Those model Yoko's aren't equal.
Damn it, how much does a pair of rear s02's run? I guess i can live with them for now. Driving the s2000 normally is still lots of fun
I can't express how happy i am with this car.

You should be... its pretty much my dream car. S02/S03's are great tires, but are pretty spendy. What are your plans for the S2K?
Well, i took a pretty big hit on the evo8 trade in.
Plans:
-Front Chin Spoiler
-AutoX
then from there...we'll see what happens

Good man... best possible thing you can do to your car is learn how to drive it.
Good luck with it, and get some new tires.

Wow, I don't want to ask why you got rid of the Evo-8, but I hope you enjoy your S2K, they are a great car...especially at the edge...But yes replace those tires...maybe research a set of Falcon Azenis...they are sticky and cheap but not quite at the treadwear of the factory Bridgestones(140) the Falcons are (200)

Azenis do not make the right sizes for the S2000.
I'd go stock size SO2s.
Below that I'd go ES100s. 205 for the front. 245 for the rear.

Its really a long story...But i'll start from the beginning.
I used to own a 2001 Integra GSR that was pretty well built. For some reason, i was getting tired of the car and wanted a little more peace of mind for my daily driver. When you start modding a car that much, the reliability goes down the drain. That and i was really getting tired of having to worry where i parked my car. With all that invested in my car, i knew that if it got stolen, i wouldn't get reimbursed from insurance. So i did what alot of people do when they finish their project car, sell it.
In september of 2003, i began to return my integra back to stock and started to look for a new car. First car that came to mind was an S2000. I just couldn't find the price i wanted for that car and so i began to look at other options. Went to look at the 350z, WRX STi, EVO8, as I thought they were all worthy replacements for my integra.
-or me, i liked the styling of the 350z, but other than that...there wasn't much i liked about it. The price was too high and the funfactor/performance wasn't what i expected for that car.
-The WRX STi, the car felt reallllly strong but magazines were right and it felt a little more sloppy then the evo8. I didn't care much for the difference in horsepower between the evo8 because 30hp is nothing in the world of turbos. I wasn't feeling the seats, but the interior build quality was pretty nice.
-EVO8...my first impressions when i sat in it was that it had a shitty interior (for a 30k car). The seats felt great, but that was all. I didn't wanna stop there and thought i would test drive it to see what all the magazines were raving about. So the salesperson lets me "tear it up" and i start by flooring it in first gear. I wait for the turbo to spool and suddenly i get pushed back into my seat like no other. "WOW" i thought. It was a test drive, but i still got to somewhat get a feel for the handling and the brakes. The car was rock solid. The suspension was stiffer than any stock car i've driven and stiffer then almost every single car i've rode in with aftermarket coilovers/springs. The level of grip that this car provides is unbelievable. You can come into a turn as fast as you want and it'll just GRIP.
Sounds like a pretty sick car so far, right? Well this is what i didn't like about the car...TURBO LAG. Coming from an all motor built gsr, i couldn't stand turbo lag. During my ownership of my evo8, i always missed my gsr. I missed the high revving motor because it reminded me of a motorcycle and added that much more fun to driving the car. I hated the build quality of the interior. I sat inside it and never really thought that it ever looked good to me. Wait, the interior was nice at night because i couldn't see the dashboard
. On to more serious problems, at 600 miles, my car shut down on me while i was driving and the check engine light. I began to freak out. "WTF, this is a brand new car and i haven't even modded it!" is what i thought. The reason for me buying a new car is because i wanted more reliability, not this crock of ****. Anyways, i try to start it up, and it fails. Try it again, fails again. Try it over and over again. You would think i would stop if it didn't work the first 10 times. I was determined to get it started because i'd be embarassed if my brand new evo had to get flat bedded to the dealer. I finally get it starting and stupid me, i reset the check engine light by unplugging the negative terminal of the battery. Everything worked fine and i thought maybe i just got a random cel. However, 600 miles later, it did the same thing, and it did it again at 1800 miles. At that point, i was getting really iffy about my car. I thought i had a lemon and that this car was cursed. I brought it to the dealer, and they didn't find a single problem. WTH?! How could you not find a problem? I talked to headquarters mitsubishi and was trying to get them to lemon law the car. They told me that I would have to wait 3 times for the problem to happen for them to actually send a rep down to look at it. I told them "If the car shuts down while i'm driving on the freeweay, and i get hurt in an accident, who is gonna take responsibility?" Their response, "Well, we couldn't find anything wrong with your car, so what do you want us to do?" My response, "If you didn't find anything wrong with my car this time, what are you gonna do different next time? Its gonna be the same CEL. And why do i have to wait for the same problem to occur 3 times for you guys to fix it?" Their response, "Well what do you want me to do? I can't just throw in new parts randomly, thats not going to fix it." I knew this wasn't going anywhere, i was frustrated and took my car back. It was ridiculous, i just spent 30k on a car and i was waiting for it to shut down another 2 times for them to send a guy to TRY to fix it. What BS.
I originally wanted a s2000 but i couldn't afford it(as stated earlier). So i looked at the used car market again and found one that i liked with low mileage. Took my turbo timer off, and off i went to the dealership.
This is what i've learned with the evo8 and now the s2000:
-Any car can be made fast in a straight line.
-I was no longer attracted to straight line performance.
-AWD behaves like FWD in the sense that it has a hint of understeer at the limit. Although the evo has more of a neutral balance.
-I hate turbos and will never go back. I'm never going to ponder the idea of turboing my s2000.
-Recaro seats are ******* sick.
-Brembo brakes are even sicker(is that word?)
-FOR me, interior DOES matter. And for 30k, this car wasn't cutting it.
-EVO8 is kinda ugly.
-I'd rather have a car thats more challenging to drive. You can probably run laps around other cars with the evo8, but its more of the car and not the driver. To me, theres no fun in that. I like the challenging of keeping a vtec motor in its powerband while going through the twisties. To me, this challenge is what makes honda cars fun as hell to drive.
-RWD>AWD in the aspect of fun factor.
-Nothing beats the feeling of 9000rpm and open top.
-I can't get a motorcycle, so this is the closest thing to it.
-I'm an all motor guy
Cliff notes: EVO8 wasn't fun for me, it provided the performance, but I didn't have that much fun in it. The reliabilty issues i was having at such low miles was a bad indication of what could happen in the future. Mitsusbishi's customer service really is worth ****, so basically you're buying a 30k car without the warranty. Honda's build quality is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than mitsubishi. My friends always told me they couldn't picture me driving the evo8 and could tell i wasn't happy with it. I'm glad to be back to all motor land and i've got the biggest smile on my face whenever i drive the S2000. Its my dream car....I LOVE EVERY SINGLE BIT OF IT!!!!

The mods will definately be more expensive than anything you have ever owned. I say get the s03. The price is basically close to the stock price.

waht does it mean when ppl say the thread wear is 200 and stuff. can someone explain it to me please. thanks a lot. and how much more are parts for an S2k then any other honda. if i were to turbo my prelude with a custom setup and lets say its 3500, how much would it be for the EXACT same parts for an s2k. same or more?

well last time i did that with the offsets on wheels and i couldn't figure out the example they gave. it was some weird ****. i think i might understand it better if someone explains it then me reading it through some weird example.
Google search "treadwear rating explained." 3rd one found.

ok thanks for the link but i'll read it when i have time. dont feel like reading all that right now. but it could have also been so much easier if someone simply said what it means. it's ok, i'll just enjoy my lazy----ness right now.

whats the difference if someone gives you a link to click and read or just posts text in the thread for you to read. there is still reading involved.
the higher the tread wear rating the longer the tire is supposed to last. so a tire with a treadwear of 100 will last half as long as a tire with a 200 rating.

serously do us all a favor and take the time to read. You'll save a lot of time by reading that link or doing a search not to mention it'll be quicker before you have to wait for someone to reply.

I'm not so sure about the S03s, i've heard many and 04 S2K owners complaining about the serious lack of traction in the rain, worse then the S02s.....
I'd go with the S02s, Speaking of - Where are you located? Because I have two extra ones that I could sell.
