Default valve adjustment

90 civic dx.

i am going to adjust my valves. do i have to take off the driver's side wheel to access the crank bolt? also, what is the torque spec for the bolt that holds the adjustment screw? i read the manual, the only thing that's a bit hazy is getting each piston at Top Dead Center.

is there any part of the adjustment that's a bitch to do?

thanks

You can just turn the wheels all the way to the left and you'll be able to access the bolt.

To get the 1st piston (closest to belt side) to tdc, look for the single mark on the crank pulley and line it up. Go cylinder 1,3,4,2 in that order, I like to put a long screwdriver in each sparkplug hole so I can see when the piston reaches it maximum height.

all you have to do is set #1 at TDC, set the valves, then turn the engine over so that the cam gear has turned exactly 1/4 turn, and then do #3, 1/4 turn, #4, 1/4 turn, #2, then you are done.

all you need to do to make sure its at TDC is make sure the cam lobes arent pushing up on any followers on the cylinder you're about to set and you're good. It doesnt have to be *exactly* TDC, you just want the follower to be on the base circle part of the lobe.

is there a tightening sequence for the valve cover crown nuts? and a torque spec for the bolt that houses the adjustment screw?
