Sliding shims on Brake Pads?!?!?
I did a brake job on both my car and my mom's car and the shims on the pads facing the outside slid off after 1,000 miles or so. This happened on both cars?
I used a synthetic lube for the backside of the pads (reduces squeal), but that should not have caused them to slide.
On my moms Ford Focus, one of the shims slid so far that it cut a groove into the hub part of the rotor! (Not the surface but the hub that sticks out and attaches to the lug nut bolts). I had to replace the rotor because I was afraid the hub of the rotor would separate and that side of the car would be useless for stopping.
I completely removed the shims. Does anyone have any other suggestions for future brake work?
Thanks,
Trench
