i have a set of hid's hi/low that i ordered from xenondepot. the bulbs came with this shield over it. my question is should i remove the shield before i put them in the stock headlight housings? or should i remove that reflector thing that goes around the bulb that is built into the headlight? i know i can't just keep both on because it prevents the hid's from lighting up the road because i tried it on my eg and the hid's didn't light up anything, so i ended up pulling out that reflector thing from the headlight housing but i wanted to know if there is any better way to go about installing the hid's. by the way the car is a 2000 civic si

 

Keep the shield that came with them. Lose the stock I believe. do a search on the install and you should be able to find more info. My rationale is your stock setup is for halogen bulbs and the H.I.D. reflector is for HID bulbs therefore you want the reflector for the H.I.D.s not the halogens

You need to remove the reflector inside the OEM headlight. This will make your HID's a lot brighter but a lot more noticeable in terms of legality. (You'll get hassled in California). I have the 96-98 EK9 headlights so removal of that piece wasn't a problem since it didn't have one. If you need additional help, pm me. Good luck.

 

i have mcculloch h4's with the built in shield on my hatch. they light up the road fine w/o modding my headlights at all. stock lights + h4 hid w/ shield provides great output, and an acceptable amount of glare imo.

i still need to aim them down a bit... the fog accents the beam nicely tho

what he said. This whole thread changed alot of what i thought about HID's and how to install them and give a great patteren. Read up.

Damn I was interested in this HID Kit. Now I think I might be interested soon.

Getting fogs (PIAA Yellow), don't want the Silverstars looking wierd with them.

 

Same question, Do you want that Shield thats on the bulb on the top or the bottom? I would think on the top to give a better cut off? just my 2 cents. Also I know and have tried to retro projectors into my stock housings and they where even less aimable and more wild then the stock ones. probably because I still had that shield on there. Anyway I see cars like 350z and Maxima that don't have projectors have a great cutoff. Just wondering how they achieve that.
