Default Tire Question? So3 or re010

Need new tires not sure if i should get re 010 in stock size or go with s03 in 205/50. Is the stock wheel wide enough to accomodate the 205. Any experiences or opinions?

I dunno if you are really set on those two tires or not....
But, I had a set of Yokohama AVS ES 100 on my old Si, they are relatively cheap compared to some and peformed great in dry and even better in wet condtions. I had them on stock 15" rims and the 205/50/15 fit fine. Just thought Id throw out another option.
I have heard good things about the s03 though...

I think this may be true. From pump #3 of my gas station to my house is normally 2.7 miles on the trip meter on every 195/50-15 and 186/60-14 tire I've ever been on. 195/55-15 (Michelin XGT V4) and 195/50-15 S03s are 2.6 miles according to the trip meter. So the 195/50-15 S03 may be slightly larger than other 195/50-15 tires.

better go with the 195's.. with the 205 you'll be paying an extra 100 bucks just for it to be a lil wider...so3's however are for dry season's not all season...however i think the re10 are all seasons.

Do you have only one set of wheels & tire? Then, I'd strongly recommend S-03 in 205/50. 'cuz it does everything better than RE-010... especially in the rain (if you drive in such a condition). You could also do 195/50/15 S-03, but it's a tad shorter than RE-010. That's not my thing, but some people like it short for cripser feel, $ savings and shorter gearing (taller numerical).

S-03 is probably the only tire that I would buy over RE-010 for everyday use. (You already know that Azenis gets the vote for autoX or track on a budget.)

G'luck.

I have to agree with Cosworth about the S03's, they kick a lot of *** and do pretty much everything better than the RE-010's. And sizing all depends upon your preference.

the topic has basically been put to rest. but AVS ES100 are a good choice, unless you have the money for S-03s.

I had S-03s on my JRSCed prelude and wasnt too impressed with them. They've definitely been hyped up and acclaimed,

but right now im on Pirelli Pzero Nero because they came with the wheels i got, and these are just as good as S-03s.

They've been hyped up for good reason. I've always ran at the front of STX on S03's against all the others running Azenis . When you are still able to place second with 5 WRX's in your class during a downpour with water sheeting off the course you know they are at least pretty decent tires.

They are the best all around street tire I have owned. I run/ran 195/50 by the way.

The RE010 in 195/55-15 was designed specifically for the ITR. It is part of what gives the ITR that feel of precise cornering and handling - and in that respect, it is superior to the S-03.

The RE010 is also better than the S-03 because it comes in the stock size. That means your speedometer will be accurate and it will fill the fender well slightly better. You will be adding an extra 1.6 percent of your miles to your odometer with the 205/50-15 S-03, and an extra 3.3 percent of your miles with the 195/50-15 S-03, and your speedometer will read high by the same percentage.

Both tires offer excellent traction on both dry roads and wet roads. Both last a long time (I have ~19K on my RE010 and they still have plenty of tread). Both suck on snow and ice. Prices:

RE010 195/55-15 $123
S-03 195/50-15 $95
S-03 205/50-15 $126

Personally, I think the RE010 is the best choice for the ITR, assuming price isn't a big factor. If price is a big factor and you don't mind giving up a little performance, then the ES100 in 195/55-15 is a better value than any of these.

Yeah and the stock exhaust manifold was designed specifically for our cars so I guess it is the best too.

I have to agree, RE010 are the best tire for our cars.

I recently got new AVS ES100 in stock size and I must say that the two dont even compare. Sidewall stiffness is seriously lacking compared to the RE010, turn in is noticebly softer. First time on the freeway I found the steering rather darty compared to the RE010. Pluses are better ride, much better rain handling, possibly longer tread life. Very good "daily driver" tire though.

RE010's are awesome. I've owned 3 sets.
The only way I would go to S03's is if I was running a 7'' rim so turn-in wouldn't be lost and had coilovers so I could close up the wheel gap they'll create.

As for tread life, the sticker the tire, the faster its going to wear.
