Default Question about tire balancing

This may seem as a stupid or simple question, but I cant figure out the answer.

When a tire is mounted on a wheel, is that wheel balanced itself, or is it balanced with the wheel on the opposite side of the car?

I'm assuming its just balancing the single wheel, but I just want to save some trouble when I go get a single tire mounted.

Thanks in advance.

Wheel balancing is done with the wheels off the car one at a time. So they are balanced as a single unit, and not in relation to the other tires.

Cheers,
Sean

balancing is done on an electronic machine that tells where the wheel needs counterweights to balance out imperfection between the rim and tire weight combined but balance as one
