Skunk2 rear spring rates
I've got Skunk2 coilovers up front on my '89 Si and Eibach sportlines in the rear. The sportlines are a little old and worn at this point and I've got a set of Skunk2 sleeves for the rear but need to pick up springs for them. I'll be doing a little auto-x on the weekends but otherwise its a daily driver. What do you guys reccomend for spring rates?
I run 450 rear and 400 front. If you are going to auto you want to have it offsetted with a higher spring rate in the rear so the car will rotate better. I drive my car everyday and its really not that bad. I'm also running neuspeed koni yellows. So it will also depend on your shocks you are going to be running. I wouldn't recommend that high of spring rate on stock shocks though, you will blow them out so fast. What shocks are you running?
My setup is as follows:
Skunk2's up front
Sportlines in the rear
Illuminas all around
F+R mugen sway bars
Full mugen bushings
Front strut tower bar
Where would I go to pick up just the rear two springs?

You can get springs that are made by Eibach that will fit your Skunk2 sleeves through Ground Control - or try the Autox forum on H-T, there's a thread especially for selling coilover-style springs (usually sold in pairs). You just have to make sure you know what inner diameter, outer diameter, length (8" is about right) and spring rate you want, and you're good to go.

Cool, thanks!
Anyone know what the exact specs are?

There's the link to the FS thread in the RR/Auto-x forum.
Most of them are 2.5" ID, 8" length, and of course the spring rates vary, but that's why you gotta figure out what rates you want. Something around 450 - 500 would probably be sufficient.

Thanks for the help.
I'm just worried that I'll blow my rear illuminas with spring rates over 400 Ib.
I heard that if you go over 400 you have to go with konis w/ custom valving?
So 8", 2.5 ID plus whatever spring rate is what I should be looking for, right.

Yeah, with Illuminas you have to be a little bit more careful than with Konis. I have Skunk2 Off-the-shelf springs both front and rear - 400f/300r, and I have Bilstein shocks in front and Illuminas in rear. The Illuminas handle the 300lb springs just fine in the rear. I think you'd probably be ok up to 450lb or so, but I'm not sure - do a search in the RR/Auto-x forum.
Koni's will generally handle up to 500lbs or so until you need to revalve them - 400 or 450lbs on off-the-shelf Koni's would be fine. Search for info on that also, as I'm not 100% sure.
Yes, 8" length plus 2.5" ID is what you want to look for - those are the same specs as what the Skunk2 c/o's come with from the factory (and like I said, factory Skunk2 c/o's would be 400f/300r, but you can up the rates a bit in the rear).

Ok on stock ground control coilovers they have three numbers on them as the following
GC180.64.61
You have to multiply the middle number by 5 to get the spring rate so you would use 64x5=320lbs. That was for the stock coilovers that ground control carries for the front.
I'm not sure what the rear spring rates are I can't see them on my buddies car, but I will find out for you guys.

multiply by 5.7, and the 61 is the spring rate, 64 is the inner diameter in millimeters (2.5 inch). geez, where do you ppl get your info from?
61 N/m = 350 lbs/inch
GC gives 350f/250r stock if you dont ask for custom rates. ridden on other ppls car with some decent off the shelf shocks and they seem pretty stiff but not so bad as for ride. i would imagine it would be quite capable for autox as well.
i think skunk2 rates are too stiff for the typical user.
