Used used used used!!!! Some of the best deals in Car Audio amps are in the used market.
I would look into Phoenix Gold's old stuff. Their M or MS series. A M44 would be a killer amp for your needs. The new stuff is not so good.
Just make sure you test the amp out before purchasing it.

PPI A404 - actually I have a black Ax400 with a built in crossover that would work pretty well for you. These are some of the best amps on the planet, and the ones that gave ppi a name in the industry.
I could do 200 shipped for it if you are interested. These amps are legendary!
Under-rated at 50x4 @ 4 ohm, 100x4 @ 2 ohm and 200x2 @ 4 ohm when bridged!
PM me if you are interested.

If you are asking about the Art series, they came out in 94 or 95 and were around for about 3 years. The AM lineup preceeded those, and then 98 is when the PC line came out and that lasted for a few years (in a few different incarnations) and now you have the PCX line.
These were probably one of the most winning amps EVER in IASCA. If you take a look around at a car audio mag during this period, I guarentee all you will find is MB Quart highs, JL subs, PPI A series amps, and Audio Control processors with a Alpine head unit....damn near everyone used that setup.
The A series can be broken up a few ways. There are the regular A series, the .2 lineup, and then the ProArts.
The .2 series came out a year after the originals. They had a beefed up power supply. The ProArts were designed for low impedance applications. They were also available in two colors - White and black - the white ones have the multi colored silkscreened graphics on them. Each size amp has a unique graphic on it. The black ones had a glossy black silk screen of the board's component layout.
I currently own 11 Art series amps (it's a bit of a sickness). I think if I had my choice, I'd do the black ones, but they are so rare to find, and even more rare to find in good condition that my new install will have 4 matching white ones - mint ones at that!
Sorry for the tirade/history lesson...I just love these amps. No crossover (except for the Ax400's and the Ax606's) and just pure power - very under rated too!

ppi art series, the drawings are kind of "kiddy" but hey they rock your subs and mids like a "motha *****"...also the smoke powerclasses are pretty nice too
Okay you have a budget of $200.00
My suggestions....hit Ebay for a classic amp
(the PPI that was offered is great )...but
unless you have a 'clue' ie. inside knowlege
of what was the rage back in the day...avoid
it..the risks dont really outwiegh the benefits.
2. Purchase the Alpine MRP series amp..the
4 cahnnel is a great bargain @ 200.00 and it has a matching 300 watt mono block at the same price. I have used these in small systems
and they have far exceeded expectations.
laterz
