Default **WARNING** SCAMMER Allert in So.Cali

(Related Link) https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=735043

I posted a car for sale in a Local Paper, someone replied this morning, inquiring about the car, after a minute or so of conversation, I told the him to call me back after work.

Later that afternoon he called back again and ask what time & where to meet, I told him I was going to make an errand right after I get off and we could meet within the vicinity that the place that im going.

He then ask specifically what is my First & Last name, because he will get a cashier check for the amount of the car which is over 10K and if he likes what he see, then he would pick it up tonight (This is about 5pm).

I then ask for his number since it is showing private number on my phone, he claimed that, he is using someone's cell and his cell phone is not working. I then told him, I would only do transaction at the bank that issued the Cashier Check in his presence, so I can cash it.

He replied by saying he will call me back in an hour or so, but he never did.

Only information that I got from him is that his first name is "David" and his from the 626 area code, but I have a feeling that he has no good intentions.

Just be warned, My suggestion if your selling your car & someone called in a private number and inquiring about what your selling, don’t forget to ask the following;

a) Name
b) Telephone Number that he can be reached
c) After the Buyer agreed on the selling price and he doesn’t want to pay in cash, insists meeting at the bank who issued the Cashier Check or Money Order, Possibly a few hours before the bank close, so they will have enough time to cash it for you.
d) Bring a friend or someone that you can trust, so they can give their opinion (like the saying goes, 2 heads are better than 1 )

I for one, whenever I buy a car, I usually pay in cash (personal preference) ask a courtesy though I usually as the seller which he/she prefer, but I’m sure whoever I’m buying it from is thinking if I’m passing out fake money, so that’s why we meet at the Bank to make the transaction so I could withdraw the money in front of the seller.

Times are hard, so be careful out there, if you have any more suggestions or additional comments your more than welcome to reply.

It may just be me but, if someone contacts me via email, AIM, etc. and starts off with calling me 'player', dude','bro',etc. I really don't get a comfortable feeling giving someone like this (who doesn't show up-front respect) my home address to send his payment. Maybe it's because I am older and am 'not down' with the latest 'street jargon'. I prefer to be professional about business dealings whether I am selling or buying.

So in spirit of this thread, be careful who you deal with and don't let the lure of money make you forget your logical side.

There is absolutely NO reson why someone should ask you to do this, it is a cashiers check and you should be able to cash these at banks and make money orders or other cashier checks for the right amount of you price on parts. This seems to be going on alot so its no longer just buyer beware, but seller beware as well. good luck to all.

my response....

I'm accepting offers right now. kkb.com quoted the car at $3600 in fair condition with a salvage title. I'm more interested in trading someone for a bigger car, civic coupe, integra etc... But everyone is free to throw out an offer they feel is fair. I will have pics to send out on sunday. Let me know any questions you might have about the car.
Thanks
Alex

Hello,

Thanks for the mail.I would to pay with a cashiers check hence you need to send your name, cell # and mailing address so that i can have the payment sent to you by my client.

However, you need not worry yourself about the shipping because i have a shipping agent who takes care of my shipping.Pls i would like to do me a favour. My client would send a check of $8,000 to you and what i would like you to do mis to cash the check and send the excess funds to the shipping agent who would come over to your place for the signing of the transfer of title and the pick up of the car for me and some other cars for my colleagues.

AWAITING YOUR RESPONSE,
PERRY.

---------------------------------------------

I decided not to respode, cause I read the "sticky" post in the forsale section, about this same ongoing scam.

Get them to send you a check so you can waste their time and money. I have a $10K cashier check sitting on the wall of my room. I'm going to see how many more checks I can get them to send me. Just don't send them any money and don't try to cash the check.

Because I don't really stay there and they aren't really car theives. They're scammers trying to jack people out of money.

Here is my response....

Sure, The best offer is $250 so far. I will ONLY accept a Bank Of America cashiers check, for the EXACT amount of $250 + the shipping cost. And will not send the seats out untill the check has cleared my bank account.
Thanks

ROFL that's gotta make a great conversation piece.

I'd try cashing the check anyway, and if it's false, ask them if you can keep it.

Thats not true a friend of mine fell for this scam a while back and he deposited the check. The check came back as being fake, he informed them it most of been fraud and he had to pay nothing. Most of the time banks will not cash a 10 grand check anyways without it setting in the bank for 3-5 days.
