I regularly cruise at about 5000 on the highway, and do so on trips that take 10 hours or more. Just be sure that you aren't low on oil.

Jeesus, its worse for you to drive your car ten miles, turn it off for 20 minutes, drive another 10 miles, etc. An engine is happy while rotating and not sitting idly.

It's not going to ruin your engine, wtf. Just drive it, it will be fine.

I'm with the rest of the group. I typically go about 90mph spinning it at 5k. No troubles here with both my 4.785 or my 4.40. Good luck.

motorbikes also redline at like 12-13K, that is a little bit of a difference. besides, they will do 80-90 in 2nd or 3rd gear so they can probably be in like 4th or 5th and cruise at 4-5K. (I am guessing that anyway, not positive)

I have a lead foot. I do 3-4 hour trips at 5000rpm all the time. I dont think it will hurt it at all. Our engines are designed even better than your average honda engine which says a lot.

I drove from Hendersonville NC to Charleston SC and only dropped out of VTEC in 5th gear twice the whole trip (radar detector started beeping).

Try following these idiot's to the Expo (8 hours almost straight) or any track event (minimum 3 hours) with Oscar in the lead

Constant 90 MPH or above and I have the ATS 4.93 so I never dropped out of Vtec or below 6,000 RPM.

And all of those guys (at least 10) bitch'in, "Why do you constantly have to stop for gas?"

Geez I wonder.

i can imagine cruising at 5k would get annoying after a little bit though. especially with straight pipes/ aftermarket exhaust. haha. I heart 3.1 final drive i wish i had the power to finish the 170~ mph tranny though

You couldn't be closer to the truth. Cruising with an APEXi N1 I can barely hear my phone ring, and assuming I had a radio, I wouldn't be able to hear it either.

Drive the R on a long trip for hours. Then check the plugs again. You'll see what I mean. The plugs will be less blackened from the long haul rather than the in-town driving.

Ahaha, I don't know about you guys, but when its not clogged up, the 401 in Toronto (the busiest highway in North America) is also one of the fastest moving. Traffic does not move slower than 120 km/hr, so cruising across the city at 140km/hr or so, I am at about 5400 RPM due to the Cusco 5.0 FD in the USDM ITR tranny. Hasn't hurt me one bit.
