My friend and I are trying to remove the crank dampener on our d16y8 so that we can swap it out with another one. We are using an pnuematic impact wrench that puts out 550 ft/lbs of torque at full psi. The stupid thing just is not cracking though. Any idea why, or tips at all? Also, we are trying to take the hub nut off for the cv's and can't seem to get that going either -- same impact.

We have tried heating it, and going back and forth.

My friend and I had the same problem last week just on D16y7. We had to take the starter out and put a socket w/extension on one of the clutch bolts to keep it from spinning. On the crank we had a socket with a breaker bar pushing with our legs. Sounds crazy but it works. The damn bolt is only torqued to 134 ftlbs too. We still dont understand why in the hell that damn bolt was soooo tight.

 

be sure you have something holding the damper. snap-on makes a tool, as does moroso. good luck! big long breaker bars work great too!

Yea we just ended up putting a peice of rubber between the engine stand and the flywheel and hammered on a breaker bar a few times. It came loose Thanks ya'll
