:FAQ: How to Remove CRX / Civic Steering Wheel
Yes my interior is white and I hate it. Anyways here is the FAQ.
Step #1:
Start by removing the 'H' in the center of the steering wheel. You can use a small screwdriver to get behind it and pry it out. Just a note; if you press to hard trying to get the screwdriver behind there you will blow your horn, and your neighbors don't like that at 1am.

Step #2:
Look down the hole behind the 'H'. You will see a bolt down there. It is 19mm.

Step #3:
Next take a ratchet, with a 19mm socket on the end, and place it down the hole. It helps to turn the bolt if you lock the steering wheel. Then get out of the car and grab the wheel with one hand and the ratchet with another. Then put as much pressure on the ratchet because the bolt is a bitch.

Step #4:
All that is left is to remove the wheel. Just tug a bit and it should come right off with no problem at all.

True.. make sure your wheel is straight up and down and use a marker to mark the nut/bolt before you remove them.

i just got an after market steering wheel, and don't have any power tools... i can get the bolt to loosen... any suggestions?

yea thats what i tried... i can turn the steering wheel the whole way with the key out... this may or may not having something to do with my steering rack being loose... gatta replace that when i get some $...
just turn the steering wheel to all the way to the left as far as it would go. then use the ratchet and loosen that 19mm nut. getting the wheel off may be a bitch if you dont have the right tools. i learned that the hard way.

after turning the wheel all the way to the left (or locking it) put your wrench on. get a pipe that fits over the rachet, and use it to give you more leverage. We call these "Cheater bars" or "Cheeter bars"

yea i know of that trick, but i could not find a bar laying around... but i dont know why but for once my steering wheel finally locked up and i got it, so thanks guys, its off and the new one is on

wow I did an insane job of removing mine. i didnt know the h came out
3 times i spent hours trying to get to the screws mounted behind the horn panel out to get to the bolt holding the wheel on . oh my what a waste of time
now i know!
and I'll probly never remove it again

lol, even if i never read or did this i would have tried to take the H off first... but that may be because i knew the H came off because i stole a couple from junk yards...

hey i think i saw a thread where people had used laquer thiner or something to remove paint safely(on plastics)
do a search in all the forums, im not sure where i saw it

and it doesn't help that my steering wheel doesn't seem to lock up either...
