VTEC warmup time & Check engine light??
If you remember I posted a few months back about letting the car warm up for about 5 minutes and then jumping on it, shifting at 8100-8200 RPMs. After I did this on Saturday on the way to Shine Street, when I shifted into second the Check Engine Light came on. I know how to drive and I didnt misshift so I think its because it wasnt all the way warmed up. The last time this happened Acura said it was for the gas cap. I pulled over, and took it off and clicked it in 5 times or so. Same check engine light. Now if I let it warm up for 30 minutes or so its perfect, as I drive the car very hard when I auto x and 1/4 and its never given me any problems. Any ideas?
I bet you it's the O2 sensor wire that is loose. This samething happen to me and they went so far as to replace the O2 sensor and ECM before they figured it was a bad connector. Thank God those boys at my local Acura dealership like me or I would have been told it was the gas cap also.
But this IS a true statement for the newer acura line ups... I've seen quite a few cars come in for that very same reason. They just tell the customer about making sure the gas cap is on correctly and reset the ECM and send them on there way. But I about 95% sure this does not apply to the Type R.

Oh and I'm not the only person that has had a 2000+ Type R and this happen to them. I know at least two people have posted about this problem on there Type R's as well.
Thanks, I'll let them know...the service guy where I take it is cool, but I looked at him when he told me the first time that my gas cap was loose and I was like, "I havent filled up for 75 miles and it just now comes on?" I dunno, I'll give him a call tomorrow and have him check it out. Thanks for the help.
I have a '00 GSR and I the CEL just came on this morning, coincidently afetr getting gas. I pulled the code. 9 beep. I guess they were long beeps. 90 translates into "Evaporative Emission Control System leak detected in the fuel tank area." My cap was loose, so I tightened it, no change. I even filled it up and tighten the cap, no change. Ive reset the ECU a billion times.
I kinda think its that stupid loose gas cap problem, but Ive never had this problem before I and never click it 3 times like Acura tells u to. Even if that is the problem, it should have been fixed when I filled up. I got an apt with Acura tomarrow morning. Who wants to bet they will tell me its the gas cap problem?

So I took it in to Acura this morning, They pulled the code and told me it was in fact the loose gas cap problem. The reason it doesnt go awy is that the ECU has to be cleared - not just reset by the button as I had done. What a gay reason for the CEL to come on.
