y8 valvetrain in z6? (yes i searched)
after reading zexmans opinion on which d head flows better, i would like to know if its possible to swap over the entire y8 valvetrain into a z6 head.
i have both heads, the y8 has 30K km's and the z6 has at least 175k km. i would like to use the newer valvetrain in the better flowing head.
ps. ill be running the 59300 cam for the y8 (i forget the exact part number..159300?)

are you going to get the head ported? Just curious, cuz that combustion chamber on the y8 is so damn sweet. A little porting on that y8 head can make things lovely...
BTW, the springs and retainers will work...as far as the actual rocker assembly, I've never tried to swap them between the heads. I do not see why not. Though, the only thing I would worry about on the z6 head is the LMA's being worn out more than the fresher y8 ones...what else are you concerned about, even with the high-*** mileage?
Just for kicks, I have to mention that I have the Crower 2 cam and I can not give it enough praise...phenomenal.

im getting the snap on basic headporting kit, but i was gonna use it for port matching/cleaning stuff up. im sure i could get the ports to look the same if i have both to look at, i just thought the z6 head would be better to start with if i could use the newer valve train. i do know that the cumbustion chamber is sweeter on the y8. common sense tells me that springs and stuff wear after a while. i guess my question is more "what problems would i run into installing the y8 valvetrain?"
it will be my porting-cherry-pop. im pretty mechanically inclined and am careful of the details. i just dont want to end up porting the water jacket

If you are going with the 59300, then you really should upgrade the valvetrain to either the skunk2 or zex/comp valvetrain. They are the only 2 that I've seen for sohc vtec heads that can handle the crazy high lift 0.455 on the zex 59300.

Oh yes. This is absolutely necessary. I did not even think he was trying to use the stock spring/ retainers. BTW, tai93si, the Crower set for you car, springs and Ti retainers, is like 280 bux or so...good stuff. The Ti they use is a super wear resistant compound, no need to worry about durability/ longevity.

I want to hear more about this snap-on head porting kit. Also, is there a link to zexman's opinion thread? Also, I would P&P both heads. do the first one for "practice" and do the second one, as the head you really want to keep...
