Weight reduction would have to be the most common reason.

Honda makes a PIMP one!

It's see through, and weighs almost nothing!

If you're referring to the stock sunroof system, it most certainly doesn't weight "almost nothing".

I think he was joking. I think he has a Del Sol, and he's referring to the targa top

When judged on it's intended funtion, it's more cost-effective than a carbon fiber hood.

You guys are silly. seriously.
The stock sunroof system is quite heavy. close to the weight of a A/C system i believe. And if you think about center of gravity and BASIC car geometry you will see that the roof is the BEST POSSIBLE place to shave weight. My car is not 2600 pounds, i weighed in last year at 2460 with full interior, AC, PS, and a half tank of gas. My goal this year is to hit 2450 WITH ME IN IT. And i feel that is very doable.
I DONT WANT MY SUNROOF. IF YOU GUYS WOULD PAY ATTENTION INSTEAD OF GIVING ME "IMO" CRAP ALL THE TIME MAYBE I'D HAVE AN ANSWER TO MY QUESTION.

Thanks, have a great day.

P.S.
"Quite frankly the amount of weight you will shave off of your car isn't worth the money IMO, but that's just me." <-- smokes too much crack

thanks padawan. at least someone knows what they are talking about in this thread

Or you could get weight reduction and functionality with a moonroof.

with an attitude like that.... figure it out yourself

seriously, most people on H-T on going to give you there honest opinion whether you ask for it or not. clearly a sunroof is mainly for fashion not function. if you didn't want a sunroof, you should have bought a car without one.

if you want to lighten your car, clearly you shouldn't have started with such a pig. the fact that you have a 2460 lb. car isn't going to convince anyone that it is not a pig.

you have a link to what you want..... go spend over $300 and enjoy saving some weight on your soon to be 2200 lb car. i don't know how much you weigh, but trying to get an ek coupe to be 2450 with you in it will be very difficult, unless you weigh 100 lbs....

i suggest, if you're going for a lighter "pig"

lose the interior (including the passenger seat, carpet, tar, etc..), a/c, p/s, go on a diet , and then spend your $300 on a sunroof cover or whatever the hell it is, and relish in the fact that you still have a 2200 lb car

IMHO ...

it's a waste of time trying to lighten an EM1

Word.. Couldn't have said it better myself..
I understand the entire sunroof mechanism probably weighs a few pounds, and if it's a 'race' car then sure, block it off.. But for cool points, it's ******* gay. A 'race' car would just weld it closed, shave it smooth, and it's like it was never there.. a block off is just a cheap way to do something ghetto style because you want to look like a race car without actually being one..

The weight thing is a legitimate issue, my Sol isn't the lightest thing around, but I don't need to start removing built in luxury features to make it racier.. Sure the A/C and P/S are gone, but they're not built into the body. If you want a body without a sunroof, buy a wrecked DX, transfer the parts, and paint it.

People saying that you shouldn't have bought a pig of a car if he is drag racing it, don't matter what car you have when you hit the scales in the street class you gotta wiegh 2400 pounds no ifs ands or buts, that is why i bought my coupe, longer wheelbase, heavier, it is heavier i don't car i wont' ever have to worry about being protested about being too light or have to add wieght to my car. Also my car is pretty damn stipped, but i am not getting rid of the sunroof the sunroof is pimp, but when you add a cage to it there goes all your hard work gone away that is where mine went.

sunroofs just leak and eventually cause problems. Thats been the case with my cars w/ sunroofs. Yea they are pretty, but...

Here we go again, last year my car weighed 2460 WITH A/C, P/S, sunroof, interior, rear spoiler, rear tar, etc... Me being 5'11" and 145 pounds i dont see it being that difficult to remove that much weight with the above mentioned gone. I guess i should post some pics of my car and my engine set-up just to prove that i am not a rice boii.
EM1's are heavy yes.. But they don't have to be. I know they can never be as light as a CX hatch but its not a CX hatch so i gotta work with what i got. i dont think boosting the **** out of it is a good alternative for 100% proven weight loss.

This car will be used for HondaChallenge eventually.

Sunroof fillers can be removed and the sunroof can be returned to stock if desired.

If any of you other guys have links to a good sunroof filler kit that would be great. Raceplates doesnt make one for my EM1.
Thanks!
