Should It Cost Me 3000 To Paint My Car With A Few Extra's???????
I Have a 94 civic coupe and i was told by some people that it would cost me 3g's to paint my car with...
1.new rear bumper
2 paint job
3. fixing dings
4. fixing minor **** (like the black guard under the wheel.

the only time it should cost that much is if you getting a color change..other then that, most good paint jobs cost 100$ a panel(hood fenders trunk...ect)
It really depends. Lets say the body shop uses a brand new Honda rear bumper, and they get you a brand new splash guard as well. That right there will come out to over $350 (or so). Add that to a general price for a color change ($1600ish), and you get about $2000. So what's up with that $1000 missing...
Just find out a few things by asking the right questions. What type of paint are they using (Dupont, PPG, House of Kolor, or something generic)? How much pearl or flake does it have? I have seen paint jobs range from about $1600 all the way up to $10,000, it really depends on a variety of things. My guys will pull off the doors, bumpers, and glass to paint the car the CORRECT way. But if your just having some whatever shop repaint your car along with the few things you just mentioned, then there is no way in hell they should charge you $3000.

To paint my front end (my car is teal, I have a 98+ black front end right now including bumpers), which includes pulling off the bumper and fenders, fixing some dings, edging in the parts, painting the parts, and blending into the doors, I was quoted $1100. If I did all the labor of removing and putting parts back on, the guy said he would do it for $850 cash.
If you're keeping your car the same color, and painting the whole thing (which means no jambs and no blending has to be done) I would not pay less than probably $1500.
Now if you plan on doing alot of prep work and/or disassembly and reassembly, then yeah it should be less, and even less if you buy the materials yourself (so materials cost would be separate).

To repair and paint the vehicle correctly, meaning removing all trim, glass, and some body panels, like bumpers, mirrors, door handles, wipers (refinishing all these items too!) etc, the price actually sounds fair, maybe even a bit low. It all comes down to getting what you pay for. Remember, this guy and his shop have lots of things to pay for....ALL materials, sandpaper, body filler, plastic, paint, primers, sealants, masking paper, spray booth, electric, etc. He also has to pay his emlpoyees enough to be able to have them make money on the job as well, or else whats the point in even bringing the job in??? Most people dont understand that it takes lots of time money and effort to create the beautiful work that the customers dont just expect, they DEMAND! So, you gotta pay the money, or let someone do a shitty job and pay less....

i think thats too much. should be around $2000. i got a car painted, with color change, and had the molding and antenna shaved for $1600. they removed almost everything. only thing left was the dash. they took off the bumpers to paint separately, the door panels, the carpet, headlights etc. AND they guarantee the paint against peeling, or flaking. thats also what you should take into consideration when getting a quote. btw, this was on a hatch.
*edit - they also filled in any imperfections, like dings during the prep work

2000? what kind of paint, what kind of primer, what kind of clear, how many coats of clear / primer, what methods to take out orange peel? what buffing methods? how much paint did they strip off originally? what kind of place was the car sprayed in? any overspray? flaking / peeling is a minimum on $300 paint jobs, lord knows anything above a thousand that does that is work of an amateur.
so many variables to introduce... truthfully a good paintjob is about 4 or 5 thousand dollars. Im asuming very good ppg products at least 2 coats of clear, perfect metallic, and NO ORANGE peel at all.

I got my car painted with body work for $1200. It used to be black but I had them paint it metallic grey (from RSX) The shop also fixed my hood, fixed all the dings, shaved emblem holes, and also painted door jams and under the hood. It also comes with 3yr warrany. There were some minor flaws and a little bit or oversprayed, but it was pretty good. For 3k it better damn flawless. I say for a really good one you should spend about 2k

Exactly....
This is one of the biggest differences between import owners and everyone else. Import owners are happy with almost any paint job and only expect it to last as long as they own the car. Basically a Maaco spray with some minor dent removal. Most Import owners don't care if there is minor flaws here and there, if there is minor tape lines because the jambs weren't sprayed, don't care if windows are taped off instead of removed, etc. etc. So to most Import owners $3k is a lot because they have lower standards.
Anyone else will tell you that if you can get a paint job for $3k and it is done correctly that is a good deal. When I painted my van, complete color change from brown to Tangerine Orange, paint supplies alone were almost a thousand and a few hundred more into sand paper, scotch pads, compounds, and buffing wheel. And I didn't buy very expensive paint at all and that didn't include the clear coat. It all depends on what kind of paint job you consider quality.
