Leverone to drive BMW in Speed World Challenge series
Jan. 14, 2004
MARLBORO, MA AND TEWKSBURY, MA – RimPRO Inc. and FlatOut Motorsports
announced today that RimPRO will sponsor FlatOut driver Nick Leverone in
North America’s hottest road-racing series: Sports Car Club of America’s
Speed World Challenge Touring Car Championship.
Leverone will drive a 1998 E36 BMW 328i in three Speed World Challenge
Touring events: two at Lime Rock Park in Lime Rock, Conn., May 28-31, and
the June 25-27 Mid-Ohio SportsCar Course race in Lexington, OH.
RimPRO, a fast-growing chain of automotive wheel repair and replacement
stores, believes the time is right for both Leverone and RimPRO to step onto
the national stage. “Nick started out as a grassroots guy, and we started
out as a local business,” said Tom Merrifield, RimPRO’s founder and CEO.
“Now we’re expanding nationally, and we’re pleased we can help Nick get into
a pro series where he can shine.”
Leverone exemplifies the SCCA’s ladder system, intended to help outstanding
drivers progress from the local level to the pros. He began autocrossing in
1991, soon became a perennial favorite in SCCA ProSolo and Solo II Nationals
competition, and in 2001 began road-racing a Mazda RX-7 in SCCA’s regional
Improved Touring S class.
Leverone immediately became a top competitor in ITS competition, winning the
Northeast Road Racing Championship and North Atlantic Road Racing
Championship (NARRC) in 2002 and the NARRC Runoffs in 2003. He’s eager to do
battle in the Speed World Challenge Touring series, which many observers
call the best road-racing in the U.S. “These are some of the premier road
racers in the country,” Leverone said. “The FlatOut team is looking at a
steep learning curve, but I can’t wait to get out on the track.”
