My ITR is having serious problems... i am baffled. I need some answers. :(
This has been going on for the past week or so. When i go to start my car.. it will 3/4 start.. meaning.. the starter fires.. you hear the engine turn on... then it immediately goes out.. thsi goes on 3-7 times.. then the car starts normally.. and I noticed white smoke today. Now when i am driving.. there is another issue.
When i go to pass someone.. and VTEC hits.. at around 6700- red line i can hear, what sounds like back fire, in my exhaust..but it is really rapid.. and the car sometimes sputters.and you can feel power drop off.. ( I have let the car warm up).. or just while i am driving.. it will semi turn off..but then go backon. I was thinking.. maybe somethign with the amount of fuel.. maybe i am too lean?.. I have only put an Intake and exhaust on the car.. so itis still basically stock...and the car only has 12K miles.. if i cannot figure this out i will put stock parts back .. on and run to the dealer..and let them handle this. I truely appricate anyhelp you all can give me.

white smoke = leaky/blown head gasket. coolant is getting into your combustion chamber. i'm in the process of replacing mine as we speak ( the head is off right now...almost done).
what you are hearing in the exhaust is misfire. my teg had the same problem as yours. when i would floor it ,high rpms it would stutter and the tach would jump around from like 5000 to 8000 immediately....
the sound out of your exhaust is definately misfiring.
to see if its your head gasket, fill your radiator up to the top, and keep the cap off. then start your car (when it hasnt been driven on...so its completely cold). and see if air bubbles come up to the top. that's a sign of a bad head gasket. or drain your radiator and see if there is some oil in it. or drain your oil and see if there is coolant in it.
i had the same problem, the sputtering at high end. from 5000 on it sputtered non stop. i thought it was ignition at first but i replaced it with all new parts and it still was no good. then one day white smoke just started coming out of my exhaust..and bubbles in my radiator. blown or leaky head gasket.
dunno how to explain the starting of your car.
best bet is to put it back to stock and take it to the dealer.

last thing that was done to the car was an exhaust about a month and a half ago. other than that I just have an intake.
I agree, claiming that your car has not been modified when it has is wrong. What are you worried about, an exhaust and intake are very minor modifications, they should not void your warrenty.

" I'm guessing the cause of the problem is not the add-on parts, but his driving style."
Claiming that your car is stock when it's not is fraud. It's illegal. And it's wrong.

Being that I worked at Honda for a while, I know that they will investigate to see if your aftermarket items caused the problem. I highly doubt those parts caused the problem. Your best bet is to call the Honda number that's on your manual and explain the situation to them BEFORE going into a Honda service department. It is very easy for the Honda dealership to blow you off and tell you your warranty has been void because of the aftermarket parts. This way you are covered incase they do say you are screwed. You dont have to scam them, just be smart about it and dont let them scam you.
Remember everybody, warranty on a particular service can be denied only if Honda finds that an aftermarket part that you have had installed actually caused the problem. If your car only has what you mentioned, you shouldnt have many problems, it will just take longer.
Best of luck..

Yea, ok. It'd be different if he had a turbo kit or NOS and blew up the engine, then blamed it on the dealer. It's not. And I know a few dealers that will deny you service even if your car is just lowered or has an intake. I don't see a problem with him putting his stock intake and header back on, then taking it back to the dealer.
