Default For those wanting the ls 5th swap some news...

I wrote the Acuraautoparts.com guys about the ls 5th gears and here's their reply. Not good news. Grrr, stupid Honda.
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">You can get the mainshaft gear but not the countershaft gear. It is not sold out or on back order. Acura (honda)of Japan tell us they will not make that part again. While they discontinue accessories all of the time it is very unusual for them to discontinue a required part. I noticed it being unavailable almost 2 years ago. </TD></TR></TABLE>
So much for that one. Time to go get a whole tranny.

that sucks if you have a jdm y1/s1/j1 tranny, but if you have a gsr ys1 you can get the hydro ls 5th gear!

I lucked out and found an LS tranny for 150 CDN. Sure it has blown 2 and 3 synchros, but who cares! A spare, at best. Definately gonna do the fifth gear swap!

BTW, My brother (Raene) got the LAST LS Fifth set new in North America!!!!

My RPM's in 5th @ 72mph are about 3800 if I remember correctly. (basically it was the same as my stock crx si tranny ran) I shut it down for the winter so I have not driven it in a while and don't remember the exact number.

Another option if you get a ls tranny with worn syncro teeth is to order the main shaft gear since it is still available and run it with the used counter. The main is the one containing the synchro mesh teeth. That way the syncro meshes with the new teeth, this will help with premature syncro wear.

Another thing I do to help is rev match. When shifting into 5th gear I let the tranny slow a bit and when down shifting I double clutch with a throttle blip in between.

Hmmm, for me 70 mph is 4kRPM. 80 is close to 5kRPM, right at 4700-4800
I drive four hours to school in this thing. I gotta get this taken care of this summer if I want to keep her as the college ho.
