OK, my friend H22apwrd95 on here put a new motor in his Prelude. I dont know **** about preludes and H22's. Hes to prould to get on here and ask for help but i'm sick of it sitting in my driveway for 6 months. Its an h22 block. JE pistons like 10:5 or 11:0.1 compression. The old motor ran when he pulled it out. He used the same head but a different block.
Since he put the new motor in it wont start. the timing is dead on, I have shecxked it and so has he.
It has spark, it has fuel.
He tries replacing the ECU, the distributor, the coil, the PGM-FI main relay. it has compression. One cylinder is a little lower than the rest but not enought that the car shouldn't start.we have replaced the plugs wires.
We put new gas in it. There's no sheck lights.
PLease throw out some ideas. Thanks.
P.S. hes running a GSR ECU.

stupid question, but did you check the battery?

Good point.
With the car sitting there as long as it has the battery is probably dead. My car has sat for maybe 3 weeks and when I tried starting it it took a few times before it fired.
If it's not the battery, it could be the altenator. Once the hesitation is fixed, throw in some new spark plugs. You probably fouled out the ones you are using right now since you have cranked it so many times over and over again.

We have replaced the plugs many times, we have been working on it for about once week far 3 months now. We have had jumpers hooked up to it every time. We even had it charging for almost 2 hours. We are going to go get a new battery now. Thanks for all the help. I still dont think it will help but the battery is under warrenty. Next we will try the other starter, he has a spare. Please keep thinking, i really appreciate all the help. I'm gonna record it trying to start and post the video. I just have to find out how to post a video. If you know let me know.

There should be one right near the motor mount by the cam gears, one from the head to the front radiator support, and I believe one from the transmission to the chassy.

We had his started tested, it wasn't turning hard enough, so we replaced it and it still wont start. I checked his timing again, its dead on, but the flywheel shows it as a tooth off. I dont know if that matters, it a Jun flywheel. When you pull a plug wire off the plug and test it out of the car, it sparks, but when you pull a plug out after you have been turning it over with the wire attached, the plug is wet with fuel. Whats up with that? We also stuck a noid light in the injestor plug and a spark plug in the plug wire and grounded it. It seems like the delay between the injector firing and the plug firing and longer than it shoud be, so we did the same on my civic and the pause between wasn't as long. What controlls that? What else should we try? HELP!!! Before I set this bitch on fire. Thanks.
It's wet with fuel becuase you are flooding the injector out. Basically, the injectors are worthless now. You need new ones.
Have you checked your timing belt to make sure it is not off?

you got a pic, i don't have a ground there.

I think preludes have them there... I know all the B series do. I added one just for extra comfort if it was not originally there.
It should go from one of the bolts on your valve cover (cam gear side) then run to the front radiator support being held in place by a 10mm bolt.

using a p72 is quite common with h22 owners. pretty much any DOHC VTEC ecu will work with any DOHC VTEC head. just minor differences. on the h22, i think the ground he is talking about is on the cam gear side and runs to the strut tower. at least on my 5th gen thats the way it is. from my experience with motor swaps, honda is really picky on grounding. i did a b16 in a 2g teg about a year ago and it did the same thing you are talking about. it was a bad grounding problem. make sure all your grounds are good.

What do you mean I am flooding out the injectos, its got a stock fuel pump, stock injectors, and stock FPR, we havn't even hooked up the SAFC yet.
It's definitely getting spark. With a plug out of the c.c., I am getting spark just fine. I am going to close down the gap, just to try that out. I also had another thought. Those of you that have had your engine apart, remember that bracket that is just below your cam gears that uses a 14mm run into the side of the head and 2 12mm run into the driver side motor mount? I can't remember if that is on my motor. I was wondering if that is a grounding issue as well.?

Yes the 4th gens should have a ground from the valve cover to the radiator support.

Yes, we checked the grounds, and even took allof them off my car and put them on the prelude, nothing. My last thought ihvolves about 2 gallons og gas and a lighter. Than mabey some marshmellows. Think it will work?
I replaced my intake manifold gaskets on my 4G SI, and forgot to hook up the ECU ground wire and it wouldn't budge....but as soon as I did--problem solved..
It hooks on to the underside of the thermostat housing
