Default timing belt life

can someone tell me what's the life of a 92 civic? just bought it used in a honda dealer, the original owner's changed the belt once and now with 215,000km(canadian spec) on the odometer. No idea when the first time was changed, and don't know if the 2nd time belt change was done. So, what's the tipical life time of honda timing belt? asking the used car sellsman seems useless aftersell.

With the proper tension, it should be good for more than 100,000 miles. But, a $14 part capable of doing so much damage when it fails should be changed more often. If the belt is frayed, oily or cracking it's definetely time to change it.

as a safe measure when ever you buy a new car you should imediatly change the timing belt just so you know when it was changed and you wont be worried about it snapping at any moment.

A 14$ part?? LMFAO! Nothing but the best for you!

I would use only Honda belts (Unitta or Suregrip) or at least get a damn Gates belt. Honda belt is good for 90k miles or 6 years. If your **** is leaking oil at the cam or crank then the belt life will be significantly shorter. Rubber does not like oil. You could remove the valve cover and top belt cover and see how much slack is in the belt- it should not be very loose. We replace the drive belts with the Tbelt and you can "usually" guage belt condition by looking at the ribs on the drive belts. Again- use honda belts (Bando or Mitsubisho) or at least gates. IF you are unsure- replace it.

Maybe it was $18. It's from http://www.hparts.com, and has "HONDA" written on it. I bough a Honda for its reliabilty, I wouldn't put crappy parts on it and turn it into a Chevy.
