Default ITR Main Bearings (Big Ends)....Pls Help

Hi,

My friend is doing a rebuild on his engine and we want to know how to distinguish the main bearings please........

Are they all the same size?

What about the colours?

The mains are not all the same size, the color depends on the thickness. You can tell the bottoms from the tops because they are notched differently. You should follow the procedure in the Helms manual for clearancing them to make sure that you get the correct size new ones. Depending on how many miles are on the motor and how much wear is on the crank will change the thicknesses you will need.

You can also tell the difference in the main bearings from the oil passages. The bearings that are inserted into the block have holes in them, and the bearings inserted into the caps have no holes in them.
Do some research on here, I think there have been many posts about bearing color designation in relation to bearing size.
