how does the timing change with cam sprockets if the cam itself doesn't move?

could someone explain this to me. i would appreciate it. thanks in adv
It's kinda tough to explain...but basically, since the cams are under spring pressure, you are actually just moving the crank from Top Dead Center..
I typed out three different ways to try and explain it, but ended up deleting them all, because they were too tough to understand. Maybe someone else can explain it better.

i still don't understand how it is moved from tdc by just moving the sprocket itself. but thanks for the effort of the explanation i'm sure you have a very good understanding of it.
Changing the setting on the cam sprokets changes the orientation of the cam in relation to the crank. I hope that this short and sweet explanation works for you.

so, i slide off the timing belt, and adjust the cam sprocket and slide the belt back on and adjust the tension as well?
trust us, it's a VERY easy adjustment... VERY easy... <5 minutes, whether it be for your DOHC or SOHC motor...

excuse my ignorance. so, what i do is, leave the timing belt on, but how do i adjust the sprocket? do i use a 12mm socket and rachet to turn the camshaft while the bolts on the sprocket are loose?
loosen the adjustment bolts on your sprockets. you'll have 3-6 of them most likely. once those are loose, use a 14mm on the middle bolt to turn the sprocket. then tighten down the adjustment bolts and you're done. simple..
