DIY paint ... help
Ok ... so i am in the process of turbo'ing my teg so thats where all my $ will be going. I have an OEM front lip and sides but dont wanna pay a crazy amount for them to get painted by a shop untill i finish my prodject. Where can i get SSBP paint in a spray can to match my car? I remember seeing a sight for it but i cant find it now. Any help would be great!
your not gonna have the finish you want with rattle can and it will crack off as soon as you hit something with it. trust me... been there done that. if you can get your hands on a compressor and a detail gun you'd be cool. then you can mix in some fisheye remover and some flex inhibitor. the fisheye remover pre contaminates your paint so that if there are any contaminants on the lips it will still stick and not give you those nasty pinholes. aslo the flex agent will make your paint flexible for hitting crap as a daily driver. with rattle can you will be repainting every year and wont have that glassy look.
Can't you rent those things somewhere?
How hard do you think it would be for a first time painter to get the hang of painting enough to do an entire car and have it look decent?
And what about the clear coat? Do you add flex inhibitor and fisheye remover to that too?

It's hard to say, I've had auto refinishing autobody repair and auto body repair 2, I planned on buying a compressor, a gun and painting my own car in spring. but I"m not 100% sure it will come out looking good
you should buy a book on auto body repair it talks about every thing though not just body repair ISBN # 0-8273-6858-5 check half.com and it should be cheap...
when you first start out the main thing you focus on is gun controll and making your strokes as even as possible

This is wrong. The paint from paintscratch.com is available with the flex additive, and is the same paint as a professional shop would mix up, since it's based on the color code of the OEM paint. The only difference is that it's put into a can with propellant rather than applied with compressed air. If you do proper prep work on the pieces, and take your time spraying and do it properly, it'll come out nearly as good. And since these pieces are thin and near the ground, it's not as important for them to be perfect like it is for something like the hood. It's all in the prepwork and the process, not how the paint is supplied.

rattle can is a much smaller mess than a gun but you cant beat the finish of the gun. rattle can would probably do for side skirts and small stuff like that. i used a detail gun on my baby but on cars in the past i've done rattle can and had it come out decent. all i can say is be patient and clean and try do learn how to make the paint flow on smooth buy practicing when you spray on the primer.
