Default Need help on bike decision (honda vs. suzuki)

I've been looking at some bikes around here and have my eye at these particular two:

1. Honda RC51
2. Suzuki GSXR750

The honda is a pretty expensive bike, but i'm not really sure how it compares to the suzu. I'd prefer a straight engine instead of the honda twin-V as it revs higher and seems to produce more power. I haven't really heard much about the RC51 but from what i've read so far it seems like a decent bike. I dunno, could you guys shed some light for me.

it is 2 totaly different bikes...

the gsxr750 will blow away the rc51....but the rc51 as some great low end power that when you snap the throttle the sound and feeling cant be compared...the 750 is also pretty torquee......

if you want be slightly different from the rest of teh sportbike world...get the rc51 and a nice set of cans....

if you want to go fast or get into stunt riding get the 750....

just my opinion

unless it is an 04 gsxr750, it will not "blow away" an rc51 by any means. If you haven't "heard much" about the rc51 then that simply means you're not in it's market. Insurance on rc51s is pretty bad. It's also not a very comfortable bike for putting around.

I have to agree with tonydatyga on that a GSXR 750 will not "blow away" a Rc51. They rev very fast, faster than any other V-twin I have rode and make very good power. But the seat Sucks for anything over a 20 minute or so ride. And neither one of them have a very good seating position.

It'll walk the rc51 in a straight line but thats about it. Both are great bikes but totally different. Id ride em both before you decide and do a lot more research.

Not really. My 98 750, geared -1 +2, can just barely stay ahead of RC's.

I personally love Vtwin's which is why in addition to my 750 I have a TL1000S. Great V2 Sport-Tourer-Hybrid but it is no competition for an RC, TLR, RSV, or Duc998(9). I have thrown saddle bags on my TL and rode across the country with alot of power and a good mount of comfort where my 750 would have been killing me. But anyway, back to topic, the RC51 is a much more aggressively positioned bike than the GSXR and will leave taller riders (5'10"+) in pain. It is more nimble feeling because it weighs less and has a lower center of gravity but the 750 is wider and much more comfortable to tuck into on the track.

Just my $.02

I know it is not on your list of discussion, but go with the Yamaha R1.

The RC51 is a Vtwin, they don't respond like normal bikes. It also depends on what kind of riding you are into. You like twisties and track days? RC51. You like stunnin? gixxer750 . . .

If you're doing any sort of commuting, then you might not want the RC51. It overheats really easy with stop-and-go stuff. RC51 looks beautiful (IMO). With the GSXR, you'll look just like all the other GSXRs out there (is it a 600? a 750? a 1000?! i dunno!! Suzuki made 'em all look alike!!!). But, it's easier to live with.

That's like buying an old rolls. It's old, everybody knows it and it spends more time in the shop than anywhere else

And a good point was brought up, RCs run very hot. I saw one hit 215 idling in a pit.

Yes, my mistake; thank you for clarifying. I should have checked my word usage. Your thighs will definitely be roasting on the RC.

Yeh, the RC51 is way heavier for one, its a 4-twin for another which makes it sound really lame if you ask me, but thats just opinion, plus its alot more uncomfortable to ride than the gixxer 7....I'd go with the gixxer, but maybe consider the new CBRR their really nice...

These bikes aren't even in the same category, so I don't know how you can group them together... and the comment about "blow it away" is garbage. Sportbikes are more than quarter mile machines, and if you've ever dragged against someone on a bike, there's no difference between 10 flat and 10.3 seconds

you right but rc51..dont run10.3...with a good ride they are high 10's...gsxr750 is a low 10 with a good rider.....in a 1/4 mile that is getting blown away if someone runs a 10.8 to a 10.2..and on a highway run....the gsxr 750 will really "BLOW AWAY" the rc51....
