theres always a lot more you can do before adding turbos and superchargers. like camshafts, pulleys, pistons... i have a short ram K and N intake. its pretty damn good, and i can really fee it kicking in at higher rpms. A cold air intake would get the job done better. Its pretty easy to make your own ram air with piping, that comes down by the radiator or in the grill. i dont knwo much about it, id check online tho.

not true follow torque specs and it will be ok.

buy a n2o system. direct port would be the best but a wet kit is also kool, no pun intended.

i got a good one, put all of that towards the down payment on a jdm h22 or h22a1 engine from a couple of luders on here or some websites out there.

Can't beat that.

0 tq???????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????

do you know what torque the h22s make????

apparently not, read on my friend.

Look up in the stickies.

Oh god, why would you say no torque to an h22, please give me a break. It is torque what makes this engine one of my favorites, enought to put you in the seat as you hit vtec.

Even in an automatic like mine.

h22s torque is great, it can be modified to obtain more, stick or auto.

In my case, it is auto, i hear "auto is slow for h22a4", but i did take on a couple of non vtec si's, and there is no video, there really is no video" but i did do this race.

Well, when i had my intake, exhaust, headers, but still, it don't matter what you have, if you drive well enough and ur response is good in the same platform, you may have a tough time at the finish line.

Best bang for buck: Nitrous

Next best: H22 swap, turbo kit

I don't think a CAI and exhaust would be too bad, but they're not very cost-effective.

This is all assuming you want better acceleration and not handling.

i would do a leakdown test to see how strong the h23 you have in it is,
if it's still good, i would run a wet shot of nitrous 50-75 shot.
you should still have some money left, maybe get a good intake,
then save up a little more and get some free flowing exhaust

Listen to this guy, this is probably the safest, most effective power gain you can get out of you 1000$ Who in the world is going to be able to swap in an H22 AND turbo it for 1000$ READ THE DAMN POST!

gain 70hp+ w/ h22 long block... yeah sure buddy.
where is he goin to find a long block for $1000?

h22 has more potential goin NA but that is it. just ask XES 500hp+ h23 if that engine has potential or not.

OK since your 17 I assume you dont have the time for a full time job to support a full build up right now so an engine swap or turbo is out of the question.

Get a K&N drop in filter and remove the resonator box from the inner fender and you have a cold air intake for $40 and a few hours work and you keep the low and torque from the stock airbox. $960 left

Get a good cat back exhaust system $200-$400 depending on what you want. Now if you do a swap or turbo this can still be used where a header cannot. $560 left

Never underestimate the power of a good tune up.Plugs (NGK),Honda distributor cap and rotor, fuel filter, pcv, clean throttle body and belts if needed. You can also advance the timing a little at this time for free. $100 $460 left.

Now you have $460.Remember if you cant install the exhaust yourself you will need to pay to have it installed and also the tune up portion so I am assuming you will be able to do all of this yourself. With the left over money you could easily get a Nitrous kit either new or used off the classifieds here on HT or you could get a set of Eibach springs for around $200-$250 and have money left for the install of the springs and an alignment.

Just my opinion.

I totally agree with str8rcn

Go with simple intake mods and an exhaust. At least you will have the versatility to go turbo/nitrous or even an engine swap down the road when you can afford to upgrade.

A good tune up is never a bad idea and you'll probably gain some power out of the tune up anyway since your car is 12 years old!

The rest of the money, i'd put it into some suspension or a set of used wheels or something. Engine mods aren't the only thing that can get your car to go faster.

With the mods listed above, at least you won't have to waste money buying replacement mods when you finally go with the engine swap or turbo/nitrous.

good luck.

if i was you id get an ebay CAI (since cold air is cold air) and some suspension (tokico illuminas, KYB AGX, Koni yelows), then save the rest and get an h22 and have some of your more mechanically inclined friends help you with the swap,

Are you dead-set on power mods?

For a grand, I think the best difference you can make is with performance tires, sport springs, shocks, and a good alignment. If you've got money left over, maybe some aggressive brake pads & synthetic fluid.
