Default H23A DOHC VTEC?

A customer of mine has brought me this motor to swap into his EG Hatch.

This will be no problem of course... i dont think.

What is the story with this motor, and howcome I never hear people talking about it? It looks like its gonna be just like doing a normal H22 swap, there are a couple small differences I have noticed but nothing I think is going to cause any difficulty.

It does not appear to have the ATTS trans.

Anyone know the HP/Tq of this motor and/or how it compares to a Type-S or something?

Just curious whats up with it, i never hear anyone talking about this swap... he got the motor for $1950 and its super super super clean its gotta be almost brand new out of an accident car because of minor damage at the front motor mount.

He got it from Osako motors too, which I thought I heard was a fraud I dunno I have never personally delt with him, but this motor appears to be an A+ deal... extremely clean with very minor shipping damages... corner of the valvecover is cracked, and the TPS is busted.. both can be replaced easily of course.

It has a different style idle valve on the back of the intake, doesnt match the other H22 swaps I have done. Not sure yet how it will act, but if its wierd I will just put on the upper plenum from an old H22 of mine so it can use an older style idle valve... yea this thing does not have the Euro-R intake manifold, its got your standard dual runner thing goin on.

they have 200hp and 15 ft pounds of torque more then the h22. redline 7000-7200.

how does it comapre to a type-s...? compare it to an h22 with 15ft/pnds of torque more not bad at all.they are great and reliable just hard to find sometimes because they are not as common as h22 people tend to forget about it. its not a redline monster it has a 95mm. stoke 87mm bore. i have one my self and love it.

if you post this in the prelude section youd get more replies

If I'm not mistaken, the idea behind H23/Vtec is using an H23 non-Vtec block while implementing an H22Vtec head. It's a similar idea to Ls/Vtec or CR/Vtec in that you get a stroked out block and mate it with a high-revving head. A guy I know has one that he revs out to a solid 8500rpm, which is really far too much for the H23 block in stock trim, and he makes a ton of power. Just to clarify, the H23 is the non-Vtec block that came in some preludes prior to '97.
