ITR protection = car alarms.....banned in your city??
Due to increasing complaints about the incessant noise that they make downtown - esp. in the wee hours of the morning - and the fact that most people ignore them nowadays - the Vancouver city council is thinking of banning car alarms. They figure "silent" type alarms/clubs etc will work just as well.
I remember New York City did this a while back. Are they banned in your city?

They're not exactly what you'd call music to the ears - especially when they wake you up at three a.m. Now noisy car alarms could get banned in Vancouver. Councillor Tim Stevenson wants city staff to study the idea of outlawing alarms - in favour of silent models. And people News1130 talked to like the idea. Michael says nobody pays attention to them anymore, so they don't really work anyway. Melody agrees they're annoying, but says people have to do what they can to protect their cars. Stevenson says alarms are especially bad in the West End and in Yaletown, where the sound bounces off buildings. He's hoping a decision will be made in a few months.

.... Yeah, every morning walking to work I am prematurely woken up by alarms. A few months ago some guy was stealing lights out of a Bimmer, and noone even gave him a second look... Loud alarms just make lots of noise, and are a false sense of security{at least in the city}..... But I still got one

I would have one even if they were banned, I'll take a ticket over my car getting jacked anyday... "Son, Even though it scared the theives away, do you know alarms are illegal? heres a $400 fine". Yes Mr. Officer
The people in this city LOVE to complain about everything. We have a repuatation for being a "no fun" city because of all the stupid rules and regulations.
I think the main problem is the ******* that have them set too sensitive.
If they are going to do this - they will need to crack down on the Harley owners with straight pipes that rock downtown late at night too.

that would suck for me since i have three horns simultaneously going off if my alarm gets tripped..one inside..one under the hood and one.. ahem in a secret place.. lowjack is always a plus for everyone..
As much as people are ignoring alarm nowadays, but if you see someone looks like they are trying to steal a ITR, would you just walk by and ignore it? I know I wouldn't (not only to ITR)
If there is a chance that stop a car be stolen, I still believe an alarm serves its purpose and should not be banned.
just my $.02

That would be a great feeling, coming back to your parked car to find out your alarm was triggered and you have a ticket on your windshield for trying to deter thieft.
It may not be the worst thing. Think about it; car alarms illegal, so when a "complainer" hears one in the wee hours they call the Cops and if there is someone jacking your car, they're caught red handed.
