Body kits
My cousin just bought a Integra LS, and he wanted to know if he took the OEM bumpers and put fiberglass front, sides, and rear kits on his car would he be lighter? cause the Integra weighs about 2600lbs with the manual tranny..thanks.

Yes, also tell him that his car will gain 50+ horsepower as well. And don't forget to add a double stack wing too.

No.
No.
If you want to drop some serious weight, you're going to have to lose AC, PS, Cruise Control, power windows and locks, etc. Also think about stripping your interior and removing sound deadening tar and worthless wiring harnesses and mechanisms like hatch/rear windshield wipers

what the hell are you guys talking about??!! Of corse it is lighter....its made out of fiberglass!.....fiberglass weighs hardly anything and that is why it is so flemsy and is not durable.... as for making a difference in racing and that matter the amount of weight your loosing with a fiber glass kit is probably not even noticable

Every body kit is going to differ in thier weight, as long as its pretty small and not a big gody ricer kind of kit you should be fine. Also, if you are asking that, you probably dont care enough of acctual performance gains in the wieght reduction!!!

not worth it imo because most fiberglass body kits are cheapely made, they crack easially, and usually dont fit very well. They are usually very ugly.

I say just look for a kit that looks like what the car is. For example, do use a kit that makes the car look "fast" for lack of better word and have a d16y7 swap in it
(my engine). I am a fan of body kits that are nicely done because they show true origionality and character in a car. But as most people have shown on this forum, when you run a body kit, you take the risk of some people not liking it. If you can get over that, your great
But some people just like to stay oem because some do like it, but some figure since the car already looks like that stock, most people will like it or not dislike it cause its stock, not like you did anything to it that people say they didn't like. So if your going to get a kit, do the research, get a kit that actually plays into the car and makes it look better. Don't get some kit that dosn't even follow the body lines of the car your putting it on. And if your going for a kit, try to stay away from fiberglass cause it cracks easily. Most lips are made out of polyurathane. Its strong, but is a lot heavier than fiberglass. I will end by saying I do respect cars that have nicely done bodykits because they actually knew what they wanted to do with the car. I view my oem mods as temporary mods till I figure out what I really want to do to make my car truly mine if that makes any sense.
Everyone else, Not bashing the jdm'ers cause it dosn't get anybody anywhere and is just a waist of bandwith. Just stating my opinion

Also, forgot to say that in my opinion, that bodykit on the Integra that was on TEAMRICE.COM was the best bodykit for an integra I've seen ever.
Also, if your talking about weight, a body kit will just get in the way. Bodykits were not made for weight though they are pretty close to stock. They were made for aerodynamics.
But when you talk about body kits, only do them if you are going show only. If your a daily driver, your just asking to have the car broken into, or asking to shatter the whole dam thing on a pothole in the street.
As far as racing, it gets into the same thing as rear wings, a honda/acura can't go fast enough to need the aerodynamics of body kits or wings so its just a waist of money.
But if our going show, definatly get a kit or the judges won't see anything you did to a car that actually worth getting points for. A civic with a full body kit will kick the *** of a oem civic with a CTR lip in a car show any day.
