sh tranny change out the driver side axle mid shaft connector
does anyone know how the change the sh tranny axle connector with the older tranny .... i got an sh tranny for really cheap it has no grinds and all the gears are fine .... my old tranny is so messed up .... well both trannys are alike as in mounting them on but there is this part by where the mid shaft part connects on the tranny that stick out .... thas the only thing that is different ... i heard it's been done but i really wouldn't know how .... if there is anyone out there that can help me out on this i 'd really appreciate it ....
this swap has been hell for me so many problems one after another .... but i hope in the end it'll work out for me .... i'm not gonna give up ... pls help me someone ... i hope u guys understand what i'm trying to say

SO you are trying to go from an SH engine/Tranny (with the ATTS) to a base model tranny? If that is the case then yeah it has been done, I did. But if you want to revert to base tranny then you will have to make an adapter plate for the intermediate shaft (sticking out of the tranny towards the driver's side). If you want I've got pics but it involves custom fabrication. you would need a milling machine w/digital readout, a set of drills (I forget which sizes) and a metric thread tap (again I forget what size).
It can be done but it takes time and a little extra $$$ if you have a Machine shop do the work. good luck

I think he's doing the opposite . . . . he's got a base model & engine, & is trying to put an SH tranny on it.

Wow if that is the case he should have bought a whole lot more than just the tranny. Electrical harnesses/coolant lines/control units/axles abound that are completely separate systems from the base model. What a pain in the a$$ to connect the ATTS onto the block too. Then I was not far off when I said good luck on the last post...
I don't really know the thick of it, I own a 4th gen, but from what I understand ATTS is *mostly* an independant system, but it still uses a different ecu than the base. I would not think that removal would be the problem I think that Installation of ATTS into a base would be a hell of a lot harder. Others have said that for removal you just take out the ATTS harness/control box(not part of the ECU) and swap to a p13 or whatever the OBDII ECU is called then plug off some ATTS coolant lines. I think that the actual unit on the back of the block is held in place with 4 long bolts and then it is the usual tranny bolt points. Since it is a fifth gen I do not know if the shift linkages are different, probably not though. then to install the base tranny you get a different driver's side axle and Intermediate shaft. Then comes the custom fab bracket to bolt the intermediate shaft to some bolt-holes on the ATTS block that don't line up like they would on the base and from there it is like any other tranny installation. But as usual a Helms manual for the type-sh prelude would have a lot more specific info that what you could compile off of HT.
Yeah, installing ATTS onto a base model would be task so difficult that it approaches impossible. You've got extra sensors all over the place (yaw, steering wheel, etc.), wiring galore (the ATTS control unit is almost as as big as the main ECU), you'd have to relocate the oil filter, there'd be interference with the base suspension components, you'd need an SH exhaust manifold, etc. Totally not worth the effort.
But I think his intention was to just use the SH tranny w/out the ATTS on a base block & car. If that's the case, the only major issue that I can think of would be whether the base intermediate shaft would fit properly into the SH tranny (using the spacer/adapter on the block, of course). . . I'm not sure, but I think I remember reading somewhere that it does not.
