h22a pros and cons
I was wondering what are the pros and cons to an h22a motor. I wanna swap this motor in my 95 civic coupe. Whats difference compared to a type R or GSR motor? Which one is better?
of course the h22 is better what kind of question is that? LOL j/k.
h22:
pros= more torque
cons= none on the motor, but it is more of a hassle to fit it in a puny civic.

Personally I think it is way better then the gsr or type r. With the type r and the gsr you can rev it up high but you dont really have the torgue to get you going. The only bad part is you need to keep your axles as straight as posible so you wont have axle problems. thats just my 2 cents

or better yet the hybrid forum. search for h22.

The H22 will problably have more potential in torque and HP althought the GSR and Type-R motors can put up monster numbers also. But is the integra motor a direct swap on civics? That it self should be your answer, its gonna cost a pretty penny to fit the H22 in the civic.

It all depends on how far you are willing to mod the motor. Stock vs Stock..I would say the H22. But if you plan on modding the engine at all that is a whole different situation.
Depends on how much you are going to mod the motor. If you are going all out meaning intake manifold, transmission gearing options, etc. you probably want a b series motor due to the high aftermarket potential. If you want to simply just slap on some bolt-ons or even maybe a turbo kit go with the H22a.

Physically, the H motor is just a big GSR motor - the tranny is the issue (all motor). I'm just waiting for someone(a race team) to build one of these motors right and put in an aggresive final drive to show what these monsters are cabable of.
it has been proven to be a kick *** motor for turbo though.. Nobody could come close to papadakis back in the day.
and yep - this thread is going to get ugly.. hehe

From experience. My friend has a 95 civic EX with a type R motor. Now yes the h22 has more torque and yes I drive a lude and swear by them. He compared the motors, the installation, and the type R was easier. Also B series motors are better to boost than H series. The H22 has weak ring lands that detonate at low boost. I know it sucks! but honestly for a civic do a type R. i barely beat my friend when i sprayed a 65 shot. I only took him by a car. The type R is an amazing motor. His car is also 400 pounds lighter but i was impressed.

Can someone who is running boost please confirm this? Or is this just a honda-tech anti-h22a-crowed rumor?

it's true, the H22A has weak ring lands, and it's not too boost friendly. it is recommended to run 6psi of boost on a fairly stock motor that is boosting.
also, Bictorious...
what are you trying to do in the future, boost, go all motor? or just a mild set-up? this would help to know if you want recommendations on what type of motor to get.
