Default wich tachomter is correct??

ok guys i wired up my autometer tach to my c5 motor b/c i didnt quite trust my civic cluster, but anyway they read different rpms once i rev above 4500. The factory tach read vtec hittin in about 5900 and the autometer read vtec kickin in about 5600. Which one is more correct. i also hear it make differetn where you get your signal from for the aftermarket tach, certain spots are more accurate.

Aftermarket tach is more correct. I know my stock tach is off 250 or so rpm.

Yup my autometer reads about 300 off from my stock one(while the sock one still worked, )

sounds like the same problem i had. just installed a new tach in my cx and the old autogage tach said vtec at 5900 and idle at 750. now, the new sport comp says vtec at 5700 and idle at 900.

wire your tach off of the wires @ the distributor for best accuracy

my stock tach is perfectly accurate as far as i can tell, vtec kicks in at exactly 5500 and fuel cut off just a lil past the 7,000 mark (approx 7200 i believe, D16Y8) so but ive never wired up a aftermarket tach, maybe it has some kind of disturbance to the stock tach?

get a timing gun like SNAP-ON or something and check it out that way to see which one is more accurate

because the timing gun is 100% accurate

How is a timing gun going to help him tell if his tach is accurate? All that is used for is to set the base timing for the car which should be 16 degrees BTDC.
