Forever Black is a permanent solution and in fact is a dye. I've used Mother's Back to Black and thought it was a decent product. But my favorite product for trim is Aerospace 303. Its a water base plastic protectant that provides UV protection on plastic.

clean off as much of the primer with petrol or some solvent and then get those wipe things that are supposed to replenish wiper blades, they soften and lubricate the rubber to prevent it from hardening and perishing

You can use alcohol swabs....they will clean that rubber....won't really protect it but I know armor all makes a compound for it, just can't remember what its called. You can also check out http://www.autodetailproducts.com
