Default Good Header and Air Filter for 2000 Honda Prelude SH

Hi all. I am new to performance parts for the prelude and have a couple of questions with regards to headers and air filters. First headers. I have been browsing around online stores and saw headers that are 4-2-1 as well as 4-1. I want more top end performance such as from vtec engagement to redline, so which design is better for the prelude? It seems like DC sports only makes 4-2-1 for the 2000 prelude SH. This brand called Kamakazi makes the 4-1; is Kamakazi a good brand? . With regards to fabrication, is ceramic better? or is stainless steel polished? Now cone air filters. Currently, i have an AEM short ram intake; I would like to replace the filter. What would you guys recommend in terms of performance and filtration? K&N, Uni Filter http://www.unifilter.com/automotive.htm , or the green filter sold here? http://www.ptuning.com/html/se...=2000 ; any other choices are welcomed. Sorry for the many questions. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Well if you want a good header definetly go with SMSP or AN-R (AN-R is a little cheaper). These headers are quite expensive but you will save money in the long run and better performance too. If you plan on supercharging the motor go with the kamakazi other wise don't, I had it on my car and its NA, no real gains felt (if I don't feel gains then there probably is no gain) but still a dyno read out would be a better judge of that. If you plan on going turbo later don't waste your money on this stuff no use their, because you waste more money purchasing stuff for a NA Prelude. As far as the filters I would choose the first one it has similar design to K&N filters which are pretty good, or was that a K&N filter? Anyways thats all I have to say, hope everything goes well.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am not sure what advance mods to do next... still researching. I am leaning towards turbo upgrade but haven't seen a turbo kit available for the SH, seems like every kit is for the base model Do u happen to know of a kit that can be bolted onto a 2000 SH model and still carb legal? As for supercharging, the JSRC is street legal right? Again, thanks for your assistance. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Yes turbos can bolt up with some mods to the downpipe. The only other problem you should be aware of is your ATTS stops working with any form of forced induction. Just so you know you can interchange almost any performance part that is made for the base unless the part comes already made for the SH.

DRag makes kits for the SH. go with a drag 3 or 4. I would go with the Drag 4 and ATTS isn't that big of a problem that ppl make it seem like, just extra weight after it stops working at about 240-250 whp range it like shuts off. don't worry about it. goodluck.

big fat BS right here buddy. learn about ATTS before you say **** like that.

common myths and questions about ATTS and boost.

can i boost if i have an SH?

yes.

will ATTS hold out if i boost over 9 PSI?

possibly, it all depends on the power you are putting down at that pressure.

why doesnt ATTS like boost?

the ATTS unit is a bunch of clutches. these clutches are not rated to the high power and torque that comes with turbo applications. and just like the clutch in your tranny it will begin to slip or give out at a certan HP/TQ range.

can i use an aftermarket ECU with ATTS?

yes!!! but its not a plug and play application. there are a few people on the AEM EMS boards that have had programs written to accept the ATTS computer. there is no other ECU to my knowledge that will allow these programs to be written. but then again i have not searched it much. HONDATA WILL NOT WORK!

first, you should decide weather you want to go turbo or not,
if you do, then there is no need to look for a header because
you will be using an exhaust manifold that bolts to the turbo.
if you stay n/a, i don't think the an-r will work(clearance issues)
i would check into mugen, smsp, or prospeed

prospeed would be the best bet IMHO. just the HP gains they promise for the $$ is better then anywhere else.

i wont say what they quoted me for a HP gain on their $530 (shipped) header, but my reaction was

email them and ask for yourself.

Personally, as far as the header is concerned, I think it would be more worth it in the long run to save up and get a good header like the SMSP/Mugen. However be prepared to spend some cash.

why?

where is the proof other then coreys car that the SMSP is worth $1200?? there is none. and he doesnt gaurentee any HP gains as far as i have ever heard. yes, it is a quality product.

but the Prospeed is 500-700 and gaurentees real power gains. a hell of a lot more then a greddy has ever shown, and quite frankly its in the same ball park as the Mugen/smsp.

more power : less $$.... cant go wrong there.

check it out yourselves. http://www.prospeedpower.com
