My 1994 Accord Lx Tranny stopped working

My 1994 Accord Lx Tranny stopped working
Hi,
Seems like my 1994 Accord Lx with 88000 miles, after I put it into drive, the tranny suddenly stopped working. I heard a groaning noise, and then i was stranded in the middle of the street. Has anyone encountered this. Im very disappointed , since ive routinely changed the tranny fluid with genuine honda atf every 30k miles. Could this be new tranny time or bad torque converter? some electrical switch? Im very down on Honda atm, my bro inlaw with a nissan maxima has done absolutely no maintenance and his car has 150k without a major problem.
