Trading a Auto for a 5 speed story
well, yesterday sucked. i have a 97 auto and i drove up to DC (4 hours) to get the 5-speed. per our conversation on the phone i understood that it would be a even swap. wrong!
they wanted to give me 12.5k for my car. i still owe 16k. (so i'm in the
hole 3.5k already) then sell me their car for 15.9k. so my total was 19.4k +fees.
i finally got them down to 18.1k.
i would have taken the deal, but the car
really bothered me. it drove ok, but there was surface rust and basic crud all over
the engine bay. and it wasn't just a little rust on the heat shield, there was
rust on just about every bracket, nut and bolt. i could understand some rust
on the rotors, but even the calipars were rusted. my car's engine bay still
looks brand new. and they wanted me to trade my vehicle in for one that was in
poorer condition and have me pay out the bung-hole.
get this: the salesman said that it was no big deal and (this is a toyota
dealership) he said that he could go and get a brand-new selica and you
could find rust on it too. i said "thats why i bought a honda" ka-pow!!
so i just didn't feel right about the car. so i didn't get it. it might be
cheaper for me to just lease a s2000. hehehe

Good thing you didn't get it, sounds like possible flood damage..
Hey, I got a buddy here selling his 1997 Base 5speed prelude.. I think he would take 12k for it, its got 100,000 on it, its black and he put a ITR wing on it, has AEM intake and Greddy EVO exhaust.. I know he didn't dog the car, just put a lot of miles on it driving to work every day.. Im only 2 hours away from you..

There is no way a dealer would do an even swap.
They want to make money and screw the customer on every transaction.
PS Wow you actually found a salesman in DC that speaks English?
