does the 1996 lude' come stock with a H23?
I'm looking at buying a 1996 lude' and the pervious owner did a head swap and the block says H23 on it. Is this the stock engine or is it a block swap? what should I look for to see if the swap was done right. Why would they even want to do a head swap if its already got dohc vtec? What are its advantages? Sorry for the dumb questions but this could be my first honda and wanna get a good one without any bugs.
If he did a VTEC swap into the car he could have just used an H23 block because 92-95 H22 and 92-95 H23 blocks are the same blocks. One just says H22 on it and the other says H23.

I have heard many ppl say that and usually there is mixed opinions on this. Someone told me that the only thing I had to do was swap the head but then I got different views saying thats not true.
What makes the blocks the same or not???

If you are talking about doing the hybrid H23VTEC, you cannot just swap the H22 VTEC head onto an H23 shortblock. Do a search and you will find a good thread regarding this hybrid.
When they say that the H22 and the H23 blocks are the same....it means that they have the SAME EXACT design. The ONLY difference is that one says H22 on it and the other says H23. If you can put a 92-95 H22 crank in an H23 block...it would be the SAME EXACT setup as an H22 block with an H22 crank, and vice versa
Look up the part numbers from http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com for 92-95 H23 blocks and 92-95 H22 blocks. It is the SAME part number.
Hope this clarifies.
