Wierd 89 Accord Lx-i Electrical Problem...please help
My friend was driving down the road, everything just slowly went dead, as if the alternator went, and it ran off battery and that died. So we removed the alternator and had auto zone check it and they said it was fine...and we charged battery but to no avail... any ideas?
That was a nice description of a dead alternator followed by a dying battery. Assuming the alternator is really ok and the battery taken out of the car and charged and holds the charge overnight. Then put the battery and alternator back in the car, clean the battery posts and connectors, and restore everything.
Finally read the battery posts with a voltmeter before the car is started, should be around 12.6 vdc. Start the car and read the battery posts(not the connector right on the lead post) again, should be 14.7 to 16 vdc. If so you dont have a problem now, and best guess is the battery terminals were bad dirty.

I am currently expirencing the EXACT SAME PROBLEM on my 1991 Accord LX... what i have found it to be on my vehicle, is the crank pulley. The closer to the engine metal part for the belts is slipping on that harmonic banlencing rubber crap. That part of the pulley just slipped right off when i accidently bumped it when going to put the belts back on after re-installing the alternator. I'd consider checking that. I just baught a pulley from fast93accord...hoping it arrives here shortly, sucks only being able to go just across town.
Wow, who would ever guess the pully was bad. I think I understand that the pully has a rubber surface on it that has come loose from the metal part of the pully. I think I understand that you could pull it off. If that is the case then perhaps you could glue it back on with some instant glue, might work as a temporary fix. Remove the serpentine belt, pull off the rubber surface, apply hand lotion to your hands and fingers, apply a coat of walmart locktite quicktite super glue, slide the rubber surface back on and hold tight for 30 seconds. Use finger nail polish remover to remove the glue from your hands. Install the serpentine belt and see how it works until the new pully comes in.
