6th gen accord - 220-240 miles and the empty light comes on...
200 miles and I've already used 3/4 tank. Empty light comes on between 220-240 miles.
I'm losing serious gas mileage in this ever increasing cold weather. I'm actually driving slower and minimizing idling to save gas but it seems to get worse.
Any ideas?

Is it the v6? In all the hondas I have ever owned or driven after 1/2 it goes FAST like from full to 1/2 I get about 220 miles and then from 1/2 to the light coming on I only get about another 100 miles.....I get a total of 320 miles to a tank (like 26-28 mpg) and its a 90 accord 4 banger.

The sad part is that this is a 4-banger.

cold weather and letting the car warm up has affected my mileage this winter so far, but i would rather let the engine warm up than worry about 50-60 miles to a tank. i am only getting 240 miles or so of city driving per tank right now

Damn...so what you're telling me is that this is normal--
I wonder what mileage those people who drive SUV's get...

im not saying it is normal, but i do know that is has an effect. if im letting my car warm up like 2wice a day it is definitely ideling(sp) harder when it warms up cause of the cold....damn imports

that doesnt sound right, i have an h22 with an accord tranny and i still get 400 miles to a full tank, when i was getting gas mileage that bad, my o2 sensor was bad. might want to investigate that

Worse...Staten Island(hills and stop lights at every corner). I get better mileage in Manhattan.
Still I don't remember my mileage this being bad since last winter.

I live a mile high.......(denver colorado) but when I took a road trip to vegas I could light up my tires with an AT.....plus I got like 400-450 on a tank.....versus 300-350 around here........
on high altitude

well see if this makes any sense, when i fill up the tank the needle doesnt always go past the (F)full line....mileage seems the same though. highway miles i get at least 400-450+. what is thelowdown on the o2 sensors? thanks
i agree... as my o2 sensor went bad, i watched the gas mileage slowly get worse and worse. i went from about 25 mpg to like 17. replaced the o2 sensor, and bam, back to 25 mpg.
is it realitively easy to change the o2 sensor? isnt there a front and a rear o2 sensor, and which one is it that might need replaced if its fuel related? thanks in advance......
Your ecu takes measurements from both o2 sensors and compares the 2 and then adjusts the air/fuel ratio......I would suggest replacing the one on the header first to see if it helps then if not the other one on the cat (?????)

You're kidding right? It comes on when you have 3-4(mine come on at 4) gallons left.

right on
It may be the spark plugs. When was the last time you had them replaced? It was -4 this morning here and I am still getting about 350-450 miles per tank.

OEM (ngk) should be anywhere from 80-180 bucks for the front one...and about that for the rear o2 sensor.

That's quite a range of price. Is there a website I can purchase this from, and how complicated is it to install?

here ya go.....select your year and model then select eletrical then sensors and find your 02 sensor...front should be by the header and the rear should be by the cat.

I have about 14,500 miles on my car so far. I checked the maintenance schedule and the spark plugs aren't on the list until I believe for 22,000 mile checkup.
Thanks for your replies.
