Ok..A real stupid question, but oh well.
My 88 Integra over heats with a thermostat installed....(Ive put three new ones in & now have a OEM unit in it)....Ive got a new radiator, water pump and new switches & Ive flushed the system twice!....the lower hose NEVER gets warm ..UNTILL I remove the thermostat!! (Ive even purged the air out 10,000 times!) Question is: Is the thermostat located at the upper hose (exiting the motor) or Lower hose (going back to the motor)???...I think I may have in in the wrong housing....duhh.
Dave.

Sigh..... thats where its been......any idea why it overheats with a thermostat?....keeping in mind its a brand new Acura OEM thermostat...($25.00)
Ive been runnning the car all morning at idlle without the stat & it runs perfectly cool.

You got the gasket messed up? The gasket has a slit around the inside, so it fits over the edge of the T-stat. That way you don't need a separate gasket on both sides. If you get it wrong, it'll block the T-stat from opening.
Also, there's a little hole in the T-stat with a little pin rattling around in it. That has to be oriented towards the top. If that's blocked, your t-stat will never see the warm water so it won't open.

Thanx..Ill make one last feeble attempt.....orientating it so the rattle pin up is tough in that confining of a space but I had it close.....also, the tstat only fits in one way on mine, the spring end wont fit the other way.

My T-stat housing has a little depression, so the rattle-pin only fits one way, too. But the rattle pin is easier to force in wrong, if you're not paying attention. And the gasket has a little cut-out for the rattle-pin.
