Default Is it probable, to calculate RPM from speed, if you stay in the same gear?

I'm trying to get information from the VSS sensor, which should give me the speed of the vehical. Once I get that I would like to be able to calculate the RPM of motor? Does this sound doable equation? I assume it would change for each gear.
