Default GSR Tranny/Clutch woes...

Hey guys,

I'm not sure if this is a tranny or clutch problem... it's intermittent too.

When the car is off:
1) I can move the gear shifter in any gear i desire (1-5 and R)

When i turn on the car:
1) In gear: the car pulls forward fairly abruptly... like the clutch is engaged (even though it's fully pressed to the floor)

2) In neutral: With the clutch fully pressed to the floor i cannot get it into gear (any gear 1-5 and R)

Ok. Say if i pull away in 1st gear and i go to change gears (clutch fully pressed) it won't move... if i start in 2nd, or even 3rd, same thing... i can't change gears.
But if i stop the car and shut if off, i can move in any gear.

A few of my buddies think the pressure plate has packed it in...

Is it the clutch? tranny?

TIA

hey the exact same thing happened to me this past weekend. I could start the car in first gear, and I had to shift without the clutch for the 60 miles home. The guys at the shop *THINK* that it is the springs on the clutch disk. Basically they say I will need a new clutch. They cant tell for sure what the prob is because they didnt open the car up. They are getting some clutches in on friday (10/5) so this weekend the new clutch is going in. I can let you know what the problem is when I get my car back next week. Now I need to go call my dad and tell him I need a ride to work

BTW: Im going ACT clutch. High Power clutch, with the good street disk and a 7lb Fidanza flywheel. Should be fun!

yeah my spring broke out, and a chunk of metal from the disk is stuck in the casing part. The clutch had 74k miles on it, and the mechanic said it had a little bit of life still left in, but not much. I pick up my car tomorrow...cant wait!!
